My first dealings with Aero this year were with Will on a couple of occasions. Each time I enjoyed the visit and came away impressed, with Will delivering what he promised. Since Will's departure, I've had another couple of enjoyable face-to-face dealings with Ken and am in absolutely no doubt...
If you follow this through, Aero are incurring additional overtime costs by working 7 days a week, but gaining nothing in return in terms of additional recovery. Add to that the significant time (and hence cost) impact of unpaid modifications and the natural thing would be for heavily modded...
Seems a very high price to pay for a second hand probable compromise on colour, size and fit, but two genuine buyers thought it was worth it. I'd rather spend an extra £80 and get exactly what I wanted, with a guarantee. At least the buyer doesn't need to wait 4 months though.
Edward, I...
Fanch, I've analysed sleeve lengths on TFL to death in the last couple of weeks and reckon that manufacturers should place standard dimensions for back and sleeve lengths in the descriptions of their jackets. Then the buyer can make an informed choice about what's right for them.
Going one...
I was lucky and was able to have my sleeves measured at the factory each time, where Will significantly over-measured to allow for wrinkling. I thought they were too long at first, but now know better.
For those who don't know anything about the properties of FQHH (like me at my first...
Fanch, it shows how important the job of the cutter is. I gather that the assumption (and reasonably so) is that the cutter has done his/her job 100% in accordance with the specs of the buyer. If the cutter gets it wrong in terms of altered length, tapering or other non-standard requirements...
Horses for courses. I'd say the sleeves were at least 1.5" too short for the seller. Once the leather starts wrinkling, the hands will look way too exposed.
I'm afraid I missed that, spending more time in the workshop. It's difficult to know where to look, though, as there's just so much vintage stuff and new jackets to take in. The styles, colours and the smell of leather is overwhelming, especially after reading so much about it all on here...
I was at the factory again this morning and I'm pleased to say that (as majormajor and robinray said earlier) the place is a hive of activity and just seems to have a purposeful air about it. I met a few of the staff, including Christine the new receptionist, Julie who'll be doing my Stockman...
Johnny, I was thinking in relative terms of jacket prices, as in what your average Joe might pay for say a Levi denim jacket then compared to now. Having said that, I don't know what the current price for a Levi denim jacket is anyway.
I wasn't a collector then, as I was unemployed and...
Very interesting Johnny, especially the second last description. I'm struggling to remember ordinary jacket prices from 30 years ago, but the £130-£180 ones strike me as relatively reasonably priced.
What would be the current day equivalent of those prices, and also current selling prices...
Hot off the press guys - I've just received an email from Ken Calder himself and he's very kindly offered a complete and speedy rebuild. I'll take it back down on Friday and make sure there's no doubts at all about the measurements, based on the Stockman and the HWM which has the correct sleeve...
Thanks for the words of hope and encouragement guys. We'll see what Aero say on Monday, and let's hope it's a rebuild. If mine goes back on the sale page, it'll be a great buy for someone.
Fanch, thanks for the kind words about the Teamster. I was out again tonight at 5 degrees wearing...
I wish I'd been more sensible and checked the sleeve length properly when I got it, but after 3 months waiting I just wanted to convince myself it was ok. There seem to be quite a lot of people on this site with the same concerns over the years, but I realise now that if you have any doubts at...
This is one drive I can't be bothered making, especially after my requirements were so clear on the order, but hey ho...
Like Fanch says, at least it's easy for me to do it. It's actually cheaper to drive than to post it.
