Also, Butters, could you explain 'metro-sexual'? I've heard people use that term...and I dislike it enough that I usually ignore it and forget to ask what it means. Specifically, what I want to know is not just what it describes, but WHY that term was applied to that particular style.
Butters, you probably listen to some of the bands I've recorded. Actually, two or three played the Warped Tour I think you saw. What stage they played on, I wouldn't know, as they now have 15,000 stages...
Around here (Mesa, AZ) the emo kids wear trucker caps too, although I agree they're...
The 70s and 80s were sort of the golden age of film scores, if you ask me...and Jerry Goldsmith was a big part of it. This is the first I've heard about his passing...he will certainly be missed.
They also have Kim Novak's grey suit from Vertigo, as well as one of the paintings of Norma Desmond from Sunset Boulevard.
Man, I want that painting of Norma Desmond.
You should look at all the auctions those folks have.
If I were a rich man...well, I wouldn't be for long.
That Bogart suit is the coolest thing...ever.
Thanks WildRoot! I think I'm going to bid on those glasses. never hurts to have a spare.
The elderly optician who excitedly worked putting my prescription into my frames said these were 1940s American optical frames. I asked him if he thought they might be 50s and he said they definitely...
Thanks for the kind words, my friend. I agree with you now - double=breasteds look fine on me.
As far as dating goes, the blue suit has a date of 1948 in it. The houndstooth has a union tag in it, but no date, and the brown one has a tag that says something about the Clothing Authority of...
Beautiful hats, all. RF, yours looks particularly great, in my opinion.
MK, my all-time favorite Borsalino that I own has that same liner. I can only echo your statements - it's the most comfy hat I've ever owned. I probably wear that one more than any other hat I own. I wonder if the...
oops...I just realized I probably should have posted this before today, but Turner Classic Movies is having 'Crimewave Week' this week. It started Tuesday and runs through next Tuesday. They are showing 99 different crime films from all different eras, but of course, they are leaning heavily...
Yes, well, of course, my wife is number one...
...but these dames aren't too hard on the eyes:
Veronica Lake
Lauren Bacall
Rita Hayworth
I have some other favorites...no time to list 'em all now.
oh, and Gene Tierney:
eBay is a great place to start, though bowling shirts generally start off kind of expensive, usually somewhere around $20, then the bidding climbs from there. I think I only have two bowling shirts, though I just bought two more (well, they had my name already embroidered on them). I got one...
I think I prefer the gangster thing to the Indy thing. Don't get me wrong - I started out in hats as a result of Indy - but it got tiring to hear the Indy theme get hummed because I was wearing a cream-colored fedora!
I've had people say I look like a PI or gangster a few times - more...
Just got back from seeing Spidey 2 again. Unless that auction photo was grossly bleached out in PhotoShop, I heavily doubt it could be the hat in the movie. It's unquestionably a dark, dark brownish grey in the film.
Good points on the Spidey suit.
RF, you're right, of course. You could start a whole separate forum topic just to bash those who claim their hat for auction is "identical to the hat Harrison Ford wears in Raiders!" - a statement which has been applied to decidedly ridiculous hats.
You could compare the trenchcoat in RF's movie still to the one pictured in the auction, and see how the lighting changes the color of that.
I think the block is identical also, and it looks like the auction photo is super blown-out to show detail. But it could be a stunt double hat...or, I...
I have a couple of cream-colored hats. Could be one like this:

There photos are actually a little dark. It's the same hat I have on in my avatar.
Also, if you're a big fan of My Man...
