As a matter of interest, was it the flat bottom hem that was the problem? Could you have lowered the whole thing by 1.5" to retain the design appearance to satisfy Ken, rather than just the back which would have altered the look?
As Fanch says, the Teamster, or maybe the LHB, might be a better...
Frank, despite me and I think everyone else here thinking the jacket looks great on you, my recommendation is that you jump on Ken's generous offer and take the refund. If you're not happy now, I suspect you won't get any happier as time goes on, as you'll see things that displease you even if...
They're also using battered as opposed to tumbled, which has confused me. I've emailed Holly for a clarification as I'll probably change my Shackleton to brown, but don't know which is which.
jla, I didn't try it on, but it looks similar to the Barnstormer, Stockman and Cheyenne in terms of fit. I sized down on my Stockman and can still wear a thick sweater under that, but I don't like tight fits anyway. As usual, best to get the specs of the two sizes you're interested in from Holly.
pipvh, I tried on the Thunder Bay last week and thought it was a great jacket. Despite being sheepskin lined, it didn't seem bulky at all, had a neat V-shaped appearance and didn't seem particularly heavy.
It kind of said "motorcycle cop" to me, in a good way, and I think it's much less...
Great looking jacket, Sloan. Definitely a much better set of pics which shows it off at its finest. The tartan cuff lining is a nice touch. Being able to layer is handy too, so plenty of use from it throughout the year (until the Irvin comes :)).
Good looking jacket, Sloan. I definitely wouldn't worry about the sleeves. They look a good length to me and will probably ride up a smidgen anyway. The shower would almost certainly shorten them a little more, if you're brave enough.
Dr H, I gather that Ken's preferred hide for the Shackleton is something lighter than full weight FQHH, possibly mid-weight, which is what I think is in the photo. He was putting that particular wasitcoat together when I ordered mine last week.
I'm sticking to FQHH as I want it in cordovan...
It's actually a stitching effect to make it look like patches. I got a bit confused about that when I was looking at it last week. That means that the inside of the pockets are lined in moleskin or whatever rather than bare leather like the Stockman, which has real patch pockets.
I think this...
Really interesting article, Sloan, and all the better that it's written by an enthusiast for enthusiasts. It certainly gives a lot of food for thought.
Well done on such a good job.
That looks fantastic, Fanch, with perfect sleeve length, so looks as good as you can possibly get. Such a long wait, but now worth it as you honestly couldn't get any better. A much better choice than the CR you originally ordered. You're right about the feel of the regular FQHH compared to...
Having seen the original too, I actually preferred the Aero version. Maybe it was because the original was so soft and worn, which most people would probably prefer, but the Aero seemed more substantial, in a good way.
I have to agree Holly. I liked that a lot when I tried it on last week. Lucky for me winter's almost over or that would probably have been an impulse buy.
Now that the Aeromarine's been announced to great appreciation, will that be available in May too?
I sense a rush of US orders coming, especially with the fast delivery. :)
Frank, good to finally see the jacket in action. I think the fit looks great and I struggle to see what the issue is. If you hadn't mentioned the shoulder I doubt if anyone would even think about it. It seems you're worried about a crease when you raise your arm, but how often will you do that...
