I've started using DE razors recently as well, partly because I'm fed up with the ridiculous cost and waste of other razors. I've gone the whole hog with the badger brush, sandalwood soap and alum block, but the whole process does take a lot longer, although it's somehow more satisfying.
I think size is fine and you can expect the sleeves to wrinkle at least half an inch, maybe more if you're brave enough to jump under the shower.
Better to have sleeves a bit long than a bit short, IMHO.
Thanks for the kind words, guys.
Swoosed, I'm no leather expert, but have FQHH, vintage FQHH and now this battered hide. My first thoughts were that it seemed the same weight, but that the hide was just less glossy than normal FQHH. However, having compared the pocket flap to my Stockman, the...
Looking at the photos again, I suppose the USP of a vest/waistcoat is the sheer versatility of the looks you can come up with - open/closed; shirt/jumper; patterned or plain shirt or jumper; summer/winter etc.
I had never worn a waistcoat until I idly tried on the leather back version that...
Boyo, the rear will definitely go first if you keep rubbing up against stuff, but then it would be easily replaceable, even in a different pattern. I tried on the original with the leather back, but Ken felt that the cloth back worked better.
I actually thought the leather back was fine and...
Here's a couple of close-ups:
I think with a shirt it looks better unbuttoned, but I wore the shirt combo out tonight and it was cold enough on the way home for me not to care what it looked like buttoned all the way up. I like the sweater look a lot, and do think it suits that better...
Thanks guys. Tadlite, it feels like FQHH, but I gather it's a bit lighter and easier to work with. I hope it does easily mark, and I think it will, as I like the worn look. The sweater is Sou' West Chunkies.
My Shackleton finally turned up, so I thought I'd get the first fit pics up there. It's battered brown, size 40, no mods:
The pockets are big enough for a credit card holder, which is what I use anyway. Having seen Ken's original, I'm sure it will age very quickly.
The weight and price of these Asos Lees was initially very tempting, but I was in two minds about the fit. Luckily MM's comments have confirmed they're not for me, so I'm glad I didn't jump in.
FWIW, I'm reliably informed by my 22-year-old fashionista daughter that my 1950s Freddies jeans with...
Why bother with that hassle if you can exchange them now? A simple size up will solve your problem without any need for desperate measures and wishful thinking.
I'd say that if they don't feel right now, you're better to exchange if you still can.Trying to loosen or stretch the leather will only have a minimal effect, so better to bite the bullet now.
Hi Sloan, I really hope you mean that literally as I'm on holiday next week and would like to see it before I go. Apparently my Teamster alterations are almost finished too, so hopefully a double package shortly.
I've ordered a battered brown Shackleton and Ken at Aero said it was lighter than FQHH and hence easier to work with. I think it also draped more easily, as you'd expect.
