Happy Jack,
I'm still waiting on final word from somebody, so it's on the fence.
Also, since you're international, it might cost extra to ship. Why don't you send me a shipping address so I can research that in the meantime.
Oh, no. Don't do that. Better to sell it off.
Have you considered a linen 8-panel newsboy cap?
For example;

Hand made panamas are always a bit wonky, and as a hatter once told me - "panama hat bodies give what they give."[huh] It's not Bob's fault, to be sure. But it is part of the hand-woven authentic panama experience. Not everyone can deal with that.
If you want more control over the final...
This is basically a bunch of stuff I want to unload. If you see something without a price, make an offer that does NOT include shipping. Not looking for much on anything.
I will ship within the CONUS.

Well, the title covers most of it. This is a Tawny Fawn standard Federation. I was told by Hats Direct that it was a Fed III, but I have become convinced that it is actually a Fed IV. My reasons are that the bow is like the IV, and the fact that it's too snug (Fed III's used to run large). This...
Absolutely. Stacking hats is not good, especially for long periods of time. I treat hats like suits - every suit gets it's own hanger and bag, so every hat gets it's own box.
My collection has grown since this was taken, and it does not include my straws...
A good way to fend them off is to put a couple of cedar balls in the box with the hat. That will also help fend off that musty "storage odor" that off-season clothing often gets.
Look very closely at you hats. If you see any little pock marks or divets, it may be a moth nibble.
I think the important thing to know is, hats don't drive women away!
The rest, for good or ill, is still in your hands. However, since hats are not overly common right now, it may serve as a low-effort conversation starter.
To my knowledge, no Akubra vendor will trim a brim for you, but you could ask the folks at David Morgan. They do offer some extra services, so they might be willing to discuss a non-returnable modification.
That said, you do not need to go custom to get what you're looking for. The style...
I hope that, over time, your family stops seeing the "costume" and gets used to hats being part of you.
I expected a bit of it when I first started, but I have worn a hat every day for over 5 years and they haven't adjusted. Yet, if I take my car for inspection and the counter guy doesn't see...
Filling the crown with tissue paper, especially an open crown, will help maintain the crown shape if the box get squeezed or jolted during storage. But this mentality also reflects an expectation of a long storage period (such as for an entire season) without being checked.
Taking out a...
If in Indy gear (which happens maybe twice a year), it's kind of the point, and I don't mind.
But in the normal day-to-day, just wearing my hats.... I only get the Indy comment from friends and family. However, I do NOT like it. At first, it was just a friendly rib. But after all these...
My read on that picture is a man who is somewhat new to hats. I mean, his hair says he hasn't come to terms with hat-head yet, and the tail says he hasn't gotten annoyed yet that he can't tilt the hat back. So, either he's new-ish or only an occasional hat wearer.
Either way, he may not...
My closet is filled with almost entirely with custom beaver felt hats. I do keep a couple of factory "mystery fur felts" around, an Akubra rabbit felt, and one nutria that is heavenly. But it's no mystery to me that I prefer beaver above all else.
Well, I think it a real Stetson, but I see why you would wonder. Regardless, you did not over-pay. That price is fairly normal for a cheapy straw, if it's even a true cheapy. Since you were surrounded by other hats of higher price, if there had been a significant quality difference, you...
