    Adventurebilt hats confuse me

I don't know exactly who manufactures the Henry, but I do know that the AB guys held them to very strict standards in terms of quality and craftsmanship. While I'm sure the manufacturer has it's "own stuff," there are certain touches that will put the Henry a notch above. Especially if you are...

Indiana Jones's Brazilian Connection: the Fedora

If you hunt around the internet, you'll find quite a few hat makers that make the claim to at least one Indy movie hat. Many of us here and at Indygear.com know the truth, but most random customers won't even necessarily know that the Indy hat is felt, never mind who made it. Like some others...

FS: VS Blue Smoke 7 1/2

I thought I recognized that name! That blocked info thing sounds like a royal pain in the petootie. Parting with this VS was very hard. I mean, like, typed an ad three or four times in the last year only to change my mind kind of hard. I'm glad a lounger got it. I hope to never sell...

    Ribbon source

Well, the man made materials are different now compared to then. The ribbon won't respond to steam or water to conform to the hat's shape. I contacted them. They told me that their grosgrain was not suitable for outside bands. It's for making inside sweatbands.

    young people & hats

I like to see the young wearing fedoras. That's where a trend takes hold, not with the old fuddy-duds like me. Sure, they know nothing about hat etiquette (or hat quality), but neither did my father when he was teenager. They have time to learn, and most probably will if they wear fedoras...

    Ribbon source

That's not a simple request. Most modern grosgrain is not good for hat ribbon. I suggest trolling websites that sell vintage grosgrain ribbon. Prepare to spend a lot of time googling and hunting. Also, try the search function here. There have been a few discussions about it in the last year.

    New to hats question

It's all a matter of finding your own look, but most hats can be worn casual. It's more the wearer being comfortable with his look than any demand of the hat. Maybe a top hat would require certain other attire, but otherwise you're safe. If you want to ease into the experience, pick a fedora...

SOLD: Brown Vintage Royal Scot 7 1/2'ish

I measured it several times, and I think the 23 is the closest I'm going to get it. It definitely leans toward a 7 3/8.

SOLD: Brown Vintage Royal Scot 7 1/2'ish

Well, therein is a head-scratcher. I'm getting 23 inches. But it just doesn't feel that small to me. And I can't imagine in what universe 23 inches could be a 7 1/2, even with shrinkage. But, there you have it.

FS: VS Blue Smoke 7 1/2

I'm pretty much in tears over selling this one, but times are very tight and I have to trim the fat. Despite my love for this hat, it is the least worn in my current collection (maybe once a year since I've owned it). I have agonized over selling this hat for a long time, and...

SOLD: Brown Vintage Royal Scot 7 1/2'ish

SOLD I got this one from Technonut a while back, and only wore it a couple of times in good weather. It just isn't quite "me" and I can't afford to get it tweaked - times being tight as they are. So, I offer it up to all of you. $160 shipped CONUS. I will ship to Canada, and can check...

    Questions from a hat newbie

I might be repeating the others a bit, but consensus is always good, right? The wool hat... I would be careful about wearing it in rain, unless it says it's water repellent. Then, when the water doesn't run off the way it used to (after a while), you may want to switch it to a fair weather...

Buying First Time Hat... For Someone Else?

Well, if you must have a gift to hand over, the measuring suggestions are good ones. Size can make-or-break when it comes to a good hat. As for suggestions on a hat to buy, I think the Downs is a good middle-road choice; not too much brim, but enough to avoid the "tiny hat" look on most...

    Welcome to Hat People

Good to see them here. Carol and I have bantered about the place several times. I'm waiting on my 4th cap right now, and I plan on getting a linen one this summer. Welcome to the Lounge, Hat People!

    Is this a crush cap.....?

Looks like a replica crush cap. Something about it is off, but the style does seem to be a crush cap.
