Well, the man made materials are different now compared to then. The ribbon won't respond to steam or water to conform to the hat's shape. I contacted them. They told me that their grosgrain was not suitable for outside bands. It's for making inside sweatbands.- Not-Bogart13

I like to see the young wearing fedoras. That's where a trend takes hold, not with the old fuddy-duds like me. Sure, they know nothing about hat etiquette (or hat quality), but neither did my father when he was teenager. They have time to learn, and most probably will if they wear fedoras...- Not-Bogart13

That's not a simple request. Most modern grosgrain is not good for hat ribbon. I suggest trolling websites that sell vintage grosgrain ribbon. Prepare to spend a lot of time googling and hunting. New to hats question
It's all a matter of finding your own look, but most hats can be worn casual. It's more the wearer being comfortable with his look than any demand of the hat. Maybe a top hat would require certain other attire, but otherwise you're safe. If you want to ease into the experience, pick a fedora...- Not-Bogart13

Well, therein is a head-scratcher. I'm getting 23 inches. But it just doesn't feel that small to me. And I can't imagine in what universe 23 inches could be a 7 1/2, even with shrinkage. But, there you have it.- Not-Bogart13

I might be repeating the others a bit, but consensus is always good, right? The wool hat... I would be careful about wearing it in rain, unless it says it's water repellent.
