Douglas,
Thanks for the kind words. Your eye is not doing bad for you either.
I know what you mean about the smaller kits - but I think our concepts of that are a little different! I generally play 5-piece kits, and I'm getting more and more into the smaller sizes - 20" kick, 12" rack...
Douglas,
I have two Flagships...there's one I actually am thinking about parting with, possibly.
I have to just take a moment to give you kudos, Douglas. I haven't really been around here in a while and in looking through many other posts, I have concluded that you have one of the most...
JM Stovall -
Wow - I have never seen another Sunnington. I have one - somewhat similar to that one. Yours is vintage, right? (I know mine is.) Mine is actually a Royal Sunnington. Nice!
Oh yeah, my wife does enjoy the persecution.
But she enjoys it more when our living room is not full of drums that I'm trying to put back together after having polished them.
That cymbal site is AWESOME. I only play vintage 50s and 60s Zildjians. I'm sure I'd like the 40s Istanbuls but I...
Yeah, my wife has two words that instatly start a vein in her forhead pulsing:
"drums"
and
"hats."
Luckily, my drums are all kept at my recording studio and an additional storage space. But I generally bring each new kit home and disassemble it completely and clean each and every crevice...
The Royal Stetson Deluxe and the Panama are two of my auctions.
You should all stay away from that Whippet. I sold my only Whippet two or three years ago and it's the only hat I ever sold that I really really missed. So I'm trying hard for that one! (That's partially why I'm selling these...
Yeah, she's a real beaut. My short-brim hats of the 30s just never get worn. I almost always reach for a wide-brim 40s hat first.
Sorry - I have mostly size 7. The biggest I've got is a 7 1/4. What can I say? I have a small head.
hello all -
I have a sort of gem up on ebay right now - a pretty sweet 30s brown fedora. It's nice enough (and pertinent enough to this crowd) that I wanted to point it out specifically to everyone here...
Weirdly, when I was in England recently (wearing my three-piece tweed 30s suit seen in other threads and my brown Borsalino fedora), I heard "Sherlock Holmes" - more than once, and more than a couple of times. Now, to be fair, these were teenagers...but I got it at least five times during my...
I have a big old brass coat/hat tree that was once in the Wells Fargo office in San Francisco. I ran across it by chance - it had been "donated" to a Salvation Army that was closed, so it was just sitting in the parking lot. I slid $40 under the door and absconded with the hat rack/tree...
Interesting debate (which I'm late to).
I have a large vintage hat collection, and I know the hats won't last forever. My favorite couple of hats have so much wear (and they were originally NOS) it's kind of scary. But I'm a big fan of production-for-use - and I couldn't own a hat I...
Yep, nice looking. I have a Knox Twenty that has the same size on it. weird, no? I can tell you that my Knox was purchased in 1947, if that helps with a date.
Yeah, the hat's exactly how it was before, although a bit stiffer. I like the more swooped brim better, too.
Ideaguy, it's a 40s Borsalino with a gold insignia on the crown - and I just realized it says Qualita Superiore.
