Well, they're not actual Tarts, but made by other companies at the time, trying to capitalize on the success of Tart's FDR.
What era were you thinking they were from? Blackwood and redwood were very popular in the 40s and 50s, not so much in the 60s. I would think they were late 50s/early 60s.
Hello, all. Hope you've been well.
I have only one vintage hat for sale this time - a Champ stingy brim in immaculate condition in a size 7 3/8.
I also have several pair of FDR-style vintage eyeglasses and also a bunch of combination frames (like Malcolm X) that are genuine vintage, all in...
Stan,
The bridge size will make a big difference in the sizing, too, as far as the hinge to hinge measurement. I have two pair of brownsmoke - 42/24 and 42/22 - and they look quite different (to me). Even different eras fit a bit differently - I have two pair of brownsmoke/clear, both...
Hey Stan!
I think I've figured out that he doesn't have repros. He has three pair of original vintage Tarts.
He first wore a pair of Regency Arnels (Tart operated as regency in the late 70s, early 80s) in Amber in 44-22. These are what I thought were repros, because the amber pattern is kind...
Hi all! Got a few things up for sale on eBay right now: several pair of vintage eyeglasses, including a RARE pair of Tart Arnels in Amber (!) in great condition, as well as a Royal Stetson from the 30s or 40s (red Philly tag inside in great shape).
Will be listing more stuff in the next...
Hey all - hope everyone is well.
I've got two vintage horsehide jackets for sale on eBay right now, plus some authentic, original Tart Arnels in Amber! Also, a handful of casual 40s/50s shirts. It's time to thin the herd a bit...
Depp in his vintage Arnels:
(vintage Borsalino in both!)
He also has a pair in black, and I think I've seen him wear a pair of repros also. His vintage ones are a little warped on his left side (your right when looking at him). I don't know if they're warped, exactly, but they kind...

and by the way, while Johnny Depp wears vintage Tarts in Amber in real life, he also wore vintage Tarts in Brownsmoke for the film Secret Window:
vintage Tart Arnel in...
I guess you're right, although the Wayfarers I'm thinking of don't look quite like that. A friend of mine is sort of a Wayfarer nut, though I think he has 60s and 70s ones.
But you're right, that the keyhole bridge is very unlike it. However, the two examples you've shown are closer to each...
Yep. I kind of took a chance, because the bridge on these is smaller than what I normally wear. But on the really old Tarts, I've found that the bridge tends to be a little bigger than it's marked. My 42-24 brownsmokes that are super early Tart have a bridge that measures out to 25mm. I can...
Those Johnny Depp glasses are cool, but they just look like 80s Wayfarers to me.
This site has really great Tart reproductions. Very high quality, and MADE IN USA. Also, a lot of cool color combos:

I also wanted to share with you something I got...
hey, all! I realize I don't get to stop in here very often anymore. But someone directed my attention to this thread - and I have become something of an expert on vintage eyeglasses in the last year, so I actually have something to contribute here!
I wear vintage Tart Arnels daily - I have...
Hello, all! Got some stuff for sale on eBay. It's once again time for me to make some room in my closet.
First, an awesome 40s - 50s horsehide beltback jacket, with some awesome patina...
Thanks for the kind words, all.
I definitely feel fortunate when it comes to head saze and hats...but I find it's a pain in terms of glasses. Smaller sized frames have proven to be somewhat difficult to find.
My daily wear glasses are vintage Tart Arnels in black, size 42-24. Kind of a tricky...
Hello, all! Well, it's getting close to the fall, which means it's time for me to once again unburden myself of some of my collection to raise money for our annual trip to Disneyland.
For now, I only have two hats, and a bunch of pair of vintage eyeglass frames.
One of the hats, a Royal...
Hello, all!
Yes, I know, I never get to post here anymore, but as a wise man once said, "kids is hell."
something like that.
anyway:
vacation time again, so a little bit of my collection is being released into the wild.
This hat is a real beaut, practically NOS, and now on eBay...
TRADES
Yes, I'm raising money for Disneyland.
BUT:
I admit, I'm also seeking a vintage leather jacket...a very specific type.
This type:

The lighterweight, the better, but it's gotta be short...
Oops. Sorry for the list.
Also have another pair of great 40s eyeglass frames wy wife has finally convinced me are too large for my face:

That two-tone...
Thanks everyone!
Yeah, I'm a 38, and most of these clothes are too big for me. Just never got around to having any of this stuff altered to fit me (and honestly, probably some of it would have been awful altered anyway).
Got a sweet pair of 1940s American Optical dark brown eyeglasses I...
