What a hat.
And another Phoenician! There are a lot more of us here than I'd realized. But then, there are times when my schedule keeps me away from the computer for months at a time - at least, in terms of message board browsing. Sometimes I just don't notice folks' locations, I guess.
You can also try just splitting the seam of the sweatband with a stitchripper. I don't mean the one that attaches it to the hat, but the one in the rear of the hat. A local hat shop here in town recommended I do that for my hats that were too snug, and it has worked great for me to be able to...
I will get my wife to snap a few pics of me in it tomorrow. I have come to the conclusion that the front of the jacket is just a tiny bit big flor me - a little roomy in the chest, and I need to get it taken in, so I haven't been wearing it that much of late. But I'll get a few pics tomorrow...
Here are some photos.
You'll pardon my idiotic face. I wanted to do it in bright sunlight, so the colors would be quite accurate, which of course meant that I had to look directly into the sun and look mildly retarded.
By the way, houndstooth is incredibly hard to photograph. It almost...
Just checked my closet, and I have a pair of 23"-cuffed pants, with a very high waist and a three-button closure. I haven't worn them because they came with a single-breasted, peak lapel suit that's a little small for me. I had it taken out once, but I think I'm going to have to have it taken...
I forgot I had this hat. It is not a hat for Canadadave, I can tell you that. Anyway, it's up on eBay, along with a couple of others. Most are pretty small, except for the Bates, which is a 7 1/8.
I've also got a late 40s black and white houndstooth D/B suit for sale. It's about a 37 - so...
I may just send it to you if I can't brush it out. It could maybe use a reblock anyway.
I actually have three or four hats that I've reblocked using Fedora's block that he sold me a while back, but I can't manage the replacement of the sweat, liner, or ribbon.
By the way, is it possible to...
30s or 40s cream-colored Courtney fur felt, standing in front of the Ambassador Hotel. I'm leaning toward 30s because it has a pretty tall crown and not as wide of a brim as many of my hats.
I have a Borsalino Nutria homburg I've been holding onto for a while which I was going to convert into a fedora, but I think I'll eventually just sell it. I think the brim will still be a little small and I hate modding hats in that way. I did it a few times and I've always regretted it.
It can be a little tricky to "un-homburg" a hat. I've had two hats that had it done, a Borsalino and a St. Regis like you have. The St. Regis brim had to be ironed, but it looked pretty good. The question is whether or not you have the patience to iron out a brim - and of course, you'll...
Hey all, here's a question. I managed to score an Imperial Stetson for practically nothing. The felt is wonderful, but it's got what I suspect are mildew spots on it - both on the hat and on the ribbon. (I'm guessing it's mildew from the smell.) I've been fortunate in that I've rarely bought...
Thanks for all of the suggestions. I've been working on my house all week, and wearing my beat-up work clothes, so the leather jacket has been in the closet. I'm going to try to clean it up this week, though, and I'll post some photos of how it came out.
I like fuzzy hats, too. I don't think I'd own more than one...but I would own one. Matt Deckard has the one I admire most (or at least, the one that's closest to what I would wear). Root's tastes run a little more traditional 30s than mine...I like a bigger brim, on myself.
Those are some awesome coats.
Mine is similar to your russet-colored one, only there are more pockets in the front of mine and it's closer to an Indy color. Here are some photos:
see what I'm talking about with those pits?
the rest of the coat looks perfect. When my wife...
The restaurant that I took my wife to when I proposed to her is in Pittsburgh, PA, and it's a very old place on top of Mt. Washington called the LeMont. We've been there twice (once a year is about all I can afford!), and they do have a hat and coat check girl, in the same place I suspect she's...
Thanks!
My wife took that photo of me in front of part of the main entrance of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. It was one of those weird photos...the lighting was so dramatic and perfect, and we didn't even realize it until we got home. The only thing I did to the photo was drop the...
BT, I'm not seeing anything...
I have the regular old stuff, you know, the standard stuff that comes in the tub. I might just apply a bit to that underarm area.
Thanks!
It looks like someone had already treated this coat with something, or it was very well kept, because the leather is in perfect shape - not dry at all. It's somewhat comparable to a Wested in terms of softeness of leather, though maybe a little tougher.
Anyway, which Pecard do...
