Mike,
That is an unusual serial number or at least I can't find it anywhere in the book or see why the S&W forum came up with 1971. The guys on that forum know what they are talking about though. If I were you I think I might get a letter from S&W on that pistol. I have bought letters in the...
The Akubra silverbelly color is actually more of a light tan than the traditional silverbelly you see in older Stetsons. In my opinion, a true silverbelly will have more of a silver or gray tone to it. The Akubra silverbelly is a very nice color though and I think it would be better suited for...
J Frame Boot Holster
While we are discussing J frames. Here is a nifty way to conceal carry a J frame. The pistol in this picture is a Model 60 with a 1 7/8" barrel. This type of carry probably wouldn't work too well for a 3 " barrel but is great for the snubby version. I usually wear starched...
Mike,
J frames have always been one of my favorites and that is a beautiful one. I'm assuming that is a Model 36 so I tried looking up that serial number for you but I don't see anything starting with "6J". If it is "J6" then here are some ranges.
1977-1978 J610001-J670000

Great job on the sweatband. I wish I had the skill and patience to sew a sweatband.
That old Nutria would look good with a horse hair band too. You can find some very nice horse hair bands on Ebay.
xbeatles4x,
Here you go. It is a size 60 though. I'm a large 7 3/8 or a small 7 1/2 and I usually buy size 60 Akubras.

I might be interested in this as a gift for a friend who wears a 7 1/8. Do you know if the ribbon is original? It looks a little wider than most Playboy ribbons I have seen. Thanks.
I doubt you are going to find anything this quality online for around $100 unless you get very, very lucky. Especially if you take shipping costs into consideration. Your best bet might be checking thrift shops locally for a vintage hat.
The Deluxe version has a little better sweatband and the...
I'm not sure what sites you are looking at for an Akubra but a Fed IV from HatsDirect will cost you about $160.00 shipped to your door from Australia. If they have your size in stock you will have it in about 10 days instead of 3 months. That is about $60.00 more than you wanted to pay but well...
Enrique,
Steam certainly won't hurt a Campdraft. Just make sure you don't get it too close to the heat source. You don't want to heat the felt but just let the felt absorb the moisture from the steam. Don't apply any steam to the sweatband because that could cause shrinkage to the leather...
