I'm just catching up on this thread too …
I had NO IDEA that Fanta came into being that way. So amazing what one can learn here.
As for the nazi re-enactors, I don't get it at all.
I just met up with an old school pal after 20 years of not being in touch (after a falling out) and it was really...
A slight diversion off the thread, but I don't know where else it should go … and everyone here loves military aircraft, so I hope nobody minds.
Just saw this and was amazed at the photos.
Apparently, some commentators are moaning that it's not a new story, but heck, photos like this never get...
And I don't consider it hijacking, CBI.
My main intention here was always for that someone out there who has a jacket and feels an urge to personalize it and make it unique to themselves - and to paint on it, but they simply don't know how (just as I once was).
So I hoped they would type in "How...
Excellent work CBI! Great stuff. It's always good to see nice work like that!
And I agree, Monitor - I've just seen the sticky and I think Feraud did really well with his surprise idea of adding a photo from each thread beneath the appropriate link. I think he added a really nice polish to it...
Nice work, 2jakes! Really nice! :) I'd love to see more of what you've done ...
Exactly, as I said back in the beginning, testing on old pieces of leather is ideal (I used my old Aviation Leathercraft A2 after I hacked off the back panel to frame "Stand By"! Waste not, want not!) or a mounted...
Thanks Monitor!
Yes, I agreed with Feraud's suggestion that one sticky with the 10 parts enclosed within was the way to go … keeps everything neat.
And it's been my pleasure. Thanks.
Just had the good news from Feraud that the threads will be added as a sticky, so my special thanks to those who have suggested this and helping to make this happen. I think a permanent sticky will really help serve as a reference for those who wish to have a crack at trying their hand at this...
Many thanks Navetsea! I appreciate the appreciation - the threads were more work than I originally thought, but thanks to the website designers here on TFL, I'm pleased with how they turned out and feel it was all well worth it in the end.
My only regret (if I have one) is that I couldn't...
Hi JJ,
Many thanks - I appreciate it.
And I'm glad it's all been very clear and everything makes sense - I was somewhat inspired after getting Fine Scale Modeller magazine all these years and liking the way they do their How-to (use decals/use photo-etched parts/camouflage/weather/build...
Hi everyone,
For no reason I can think of, I ran into technical difficulties with this part and the images loaded as attachments that wouldn't open as something to see - so I've just gone into edit and have reloaded them and now they work. I can't explain it - but all's well that ends well...
And so, we have arrived at the end and I have taken you from the first draft to the finished piece.
And here are some “fit pics” of the finished work on my Aero ANJ-3, with photos taken outside.
And that’s all there is to it. All done!
And if you wanted to do a pin-up, it’s all the...

Another way of adding an "aging" effect is to add a coat or two of Annie Sloan “Soft Wax” to add an extra “weathering” effect and tone down the colours further - and to protect the finished art with a light wax coat.
This is something I’ve only recently discovered for myself but I’ve added it to...

So here's the story so far:
Now, once the job is done, it will of course look a bit bright and fresh to you – and you may wish to tone it down and “age” it - perhaps slightly, maybe more so. This is easily done in two ways: dark wash filters and/or dry brushing techniques.
