I remember you saying that you had ordered them, Sloan - so how are they now you have them? I've only ever seen them in the catalogues. I'd love to know how you rate them. Thanks.
Hello again - and sorry for the delay belfastboy, and no, I hadn't forgotten you. Just a difficult day at work here.
Now, I lifted out the Goo Gone from home and noted that, on the label, it says "do not use on leather". I thought that was odd as it says it's safe on laundry as a pre-wash!
And...
Goo Gone is oily - I can't see it harming leather - and it says it's safe on clothing/upholstery.
But trying a little on an inconspicuous area - or piece of spare piece of goatskin - would be the way to go for sure.
If you (and the auction) can wait, I can bring some of our Goo Gone from home...
I'd apply a little dish soap and water via a cloth, then wiping with a dry gauze would be the first thing I'd try.
Goo Gone would be the next thing I'd try …

Then, if it works, I'd clean again with soap and water.
Firstly, welcome to TFL !!!
You may wish to consider a 352nd A2 - http://www.eastmanleather.com/type-352nd-fighter-group-p-208.html - the one that has the large interior pockets made of parachute pack canvas - originally designed as a modification to stow escape gear (escape maps, chocolate...
Thanks for the info on the hat! Will look them up …
And knowing you're matching tartans too just confirms the well-put-together look! Very smart. Love it.
Cheers!
Oh, I'm sure that having bullion patches made is costly and the jacket certainly looks great and, as such, exudes expense. I was just meaning the final cost in general for what is, at the end of the day, a B-3 jacket; 1400 quid + VAT + shipping (or in my case, + customs & duties + customs...
P.S.
Just had an email from ELC about their new releases for Autumn/Winter 2015 and on there there's their Werber "General Patton Edition" B-3. Russet leather. HH facings. A beautiful bullion patch. It's a spot-on reproduction of the original!
But the first thing I did was to look at the price...
Although I don't know the Aero jacket in question, I can say that I understand your caution about the contrast stitching; I had the same hesitation when I first looked at a RW ELC B-3 - the russet hide type and it had olive drab (OD) stitching, and it gave me serious pause to wonder how that OD...
I had the B-6 on for both dog walks this morning - and the ELC C-3 under that (!), so YES, I did enjoy this morning's walk, thank you DD - like yesterday's.
But what tires me in this city is the wind. I know Chicago is known as "the windy city", but being on a mountain bike every day in four...
So yesterday I said "What a difference a day makes" as we went from shorts and t-shirt weather to my heavy cargo pants and ANJ-3.
This morning I wore my ANJ-3 again for the first pre-dawn dog walk - and needed to switch up to the ELC B-6 for the second! It was that chilly with the 5C and the...
Thanks Bunyip and IXL!
And that's a nice 15th AAF/Capri disc, Rocketeer! It must be something like a Capri bell-type souvenir from a local bazaar/market. It's in great condition. Really unique and very nice. Perfect for a XV AAF-themed jacket!
HP sauce. It's a dark and more savoury version of tomato ketchup and is like A1 steak sauce but better - comes as regular (good for dark meat) and fruity (milder - good with chicken). Either work really well with sausage sandwiches or eggs and bacon breakfasts. I miss good sausage sandwiches...
