Indeed. When the zip fouls, I think it's a timely prompt to treat these things with some respect (for their age) and more kindly and to appreciate them more fully for what they are and represent - and not merely treat them casually. And that's no bad thing. There's so much to admire and...
Glad to hear you're dealing with Aero directly to get this sorted …
As I said, it just doesn't pay to be on "auto-pilot" when engaging these NOS/repro zips. I know when I've done this and my mind's been elsewhere and I've suddenly pulled up the zip and it felt strangely wrong and I instantly am...
My God, that's a beautiful looking zip!
Yes, these old design zips can be tricky and they do require the wearer to be more "present' in mind when engaging them (I speak from experience as I have NOS Talons on a couple of jackets and have learned this myself).
And this has occasionally happened...
If anyone had asked me to take a good guess at where that jacket is, I'd have said it would most surely have been a part of the exhibit of David Bowie's career that toured Canada a couple of years ago, and that was such a hit with fans that they ran later in the evenings and extended the dates...
You see what I mean, Desmond? See?! Watches are another gateway drug !
I have two - a Rolex from 1958 (black face Oyster Royal - mechanical) and a perpetual Air King (blue face) - both courtesy of my dad. My dad got the older one for his 21st birthday when he was out in Sri Lanka doing his...
Well, as I said, I got a big hit of an unexpected bill on Tuesday (the furnace was just making strange sounds upon firing up - it was working fine, but I called in a tech on it. Was quoted $136 for the call out, and that was fair. The tech showed up and it turned out the furnace was emitting way...
Oh, I agree. And worryingly, there seems to be no government planning (or even concern) to halt the fall … so as such, yes, I think $1.50 (it's $1.70 for those who are watching from the safety of the bleachers) is a fair estimate and I can feel that same reluctance to purchase coming on. Sad but...
I missed that thread! Thanks!
Great work, DD ! Inspiring! Cool shades too!
Alas, I'm watching our Canadian dollar fall by the day and these jackets (in US$) are slowly becoming more expensive with our increasingly appalling exchange rate!
Part of me is thinking I should leap on something quick...
If I may, Sir Jacket, my suggestion would be that you send it to Aero. I'd let the tailor(ess) who made the jacket alter the jacket. They know the jacket down to the stitch, so who better than to work on it so that it doesn't look altered and maintain its character?
Unless you need the jacket...
I'm delighted to hear that you've given Aero a ping and opened communications. Yes, these jackets are a cut above in terms of expense, but bear in mind that a part of what you pay for with all these companies is a cut above in terms of customer service, and as these jackets can be viewed as...
You're entirely welcome, Desmond.
Most of us here have learnt the meaning of "Act in haste, repent at leisure" where jackets are concerned - so, at the end of the day, amongst other reasons, we're all just here to hopefully try and help steer people into making wise(r) - and un-rash - decisions...
