Windstorm, don't forget that you can ask for swatches from Aero. I'm sure they'd be happy to oblige. I think you'll get more from those and gain a more visceral and tactile appreciation/sense for your comparison than just a 2-D image that can vary greatly depending on light and the camera used.
Fantastic! It looks just like like something Dick Dastardly and his trusty sidekick Muttley (those "double dealing do-badders!") would compete against in their "The Mean Machine" racing car from Whacky Races - the old early 70's Hanna-Barbera cartoon - but made real!
Magnificent.
Mine was the first piece of jacket art that I did - and put on my old Aviation Leathercraft A2.
"Stand By" was one of the singles by Roman Holliday and taken from their 1983 "Cookin' On The Roof" LP. This design was originally done for one of the band members (who all wore a variety of WW2...
Thanks for the kind words, highhope - and I'm glad I got the Leap Of Faith element across sufficiently that you could make yours. It's tough - as the stark reality is that you're about to potentially ruin a perfectly good jacket. But I'm glad you made the jump - and did so with aplomb!
I look at...
Interesting comments … but for me, I still feel that I can't judge a jacket's finish properly from a 2-D image - not until I've seen it in person for a proper appraisal, as it's a tactile experience as much as a visual one.
And also, does that A2 model fit me well too in terms of cut?
And as...
The ELC jacket looks beautiful to me.
And metal Capt. rank was worn under the collar! I've never seen that. Interesting! A nice, subtle detail.
I think the price reflects the extra work involved and that finish sets it apart from all the others out there. I don't think I'd go with a V. Hiltz...
PS. I'm still looking and admiring your work here, highhope - and I love the design. It reminds me of the animation style first seen when Warner Bros. did the Batman series - which was very art-deco and subtly stylish (and why it totally worked then, I thought), and, to me, the horse reminds me...
Beautiful, highhope. Simply BEAUTIFUL! I love it! 10/10! :)
The art looks stunning. Simple, elegant, original and very, very well done indeed! What more is there?!
And I'm glad that my thread helped - and you are most welcome. Its job is already done as it helped someone here on TFL - it was...
Copyright issues?
I see various jacket makers (Aero, ELC, LW and GW to name but four) making A2 jackets made previously by other clothing companies - Dubow, Werber, Rough Wear, Star Sportswear etc. etc.) and personally, I don't think that this is any different. Buzz Rickson (Japan). There's...
You're most welcome, TPD.
I'm sorry my reply came in a bit late - I haven't looked in on the WW2 section for a while and only saw your reply a couple of days ago as, TBH, I don't often stray from the Outerwear section (alas, not enough time in my work day - and I only follow a few threads at...
Good day TPD,
I must say, I think your idea for a tribute jacket is a superb. I mean, it’s well-deserved – to think, that not only did your family member go through training (not easy – and then considering the amount of fatalities that were incurred during training!), and then run the gamut of...
As we're talking about zips here, I now have the two Talon zips that were on my Aero C-3 - and if anyone would like them, please PM me and I will gladly send them. That should save someone a few bucks should they want them on a jacket and just ask Aero (or whoever) to fit them. They are 6" in...
Good day highhope,
Thanks for posting your jacket art here - and even though it's incomplete, I can see it's already looking nice and neat and is nicely done! It's a really original and cool design you've come up with and I look forward to seeing it progress - and seeing just who is on the horse...
I had repro Talon zips added to my redskin Aero C-3 when it was made; but that C-3 only comes out in sub-zero temperatures and I wear it over my ELC RW B-6 to extend the latter's service and I wear my A-10 gloves too - but the zips would rub on my bare wrists - and rubbing in those temperatures...
Some photos of my ELC RW B-3 that I took last Summer for the Top 3 jacket thread that I always meant to include (my Aero ANJ-3 and Buzz L2-A rounding out the others) but never did. Here it is with the ELC C-3 vest beneath it.
I wore it today with just with a t-shirt and wool sweater beneath it...
I couldn't ride in today as it was too icy for my steel-studded tires on the mountain bike, so I relented and rode the cattle cars (subway) and wore my ELC RW B-3 - with my B-2 cap no less. Costumey? I don't think so. Hell, I've been on the subway and I watched one guy get on and he was wearing...
