It was either Steve McQueen's/Hilt's A2 that was my very first exposure to the jacket as a very young kid - or the A2s in Sole Survivor (too early to be precise) and I admired them all even then. It's funny how these things "imprint" on you at such an early age.
Welcome to the lounge, Loubios!
I would say that there is no real difference in actual quality between the Japanese manufacturers and the Scottish/English ones you mention. There is a sizeable difference in general price and that is more to do with the Yen and the overall cost of...
It's a very nice and cool looking jacket to me! It seems to exhibit a really perfect finish. And I think it will sell and is a great jacket to put in a product range as it's perhaps the most iconic of all A2 jackets.
Would I buy one? No, as personally I like to have something that is unique in...
It is indeed an excellent and beautifully made jacket, Edward. Of all my jackets, my girlfriend says it's her favourite - and that's high praise indeed from someone who thinks all my jackets look the same and who can't understand why I like them like I do or understand what I see in them (or...
WELL DONE! I don't know how you did that, DD, but thank you! I'm obliged to you for you taking the time to do that.
And you caught the one-piece back panel perfectly too!
Bravo, Sir!
Well done! This is the old DVD release by Contender (much criticized for supposedly being remastered but was still grainy with a lack of balanced colour and contrast and dirty due to a lack of proper equipment - and a lack of access to the original source footage) before Network got a proper...
I was watching the first season of The Professionals (Mk I) on Blu-Ray last night (absolutely brilliant!) and in the 1977 episode "Look after Annie", Martin Shaw wore a really nice Irvin in brown fleece (just like ELC's 1942 Pattern) but it had a one-piece back panel and it looked really nice...
And there's a helmet to go with it!

I could get a good old BAR belt and a couple of medical pouches and then I'd be all set!
But then I'm back to the fact that I'm still only 5'7" ! LOL!
I think Captain America looks at his absolute best in that jacket - and I find myself continually hoping he'll get another to go over that modern uniform he wears. Which he doesn't. But he really should.
And I'd love a modified Bootlegger as I think it's an amazing design (and am glad it got...
What a great thread! And the photos really capture the quality going on. Fantastic.
Looking forward to seeing it all done and the fit pics.
Thanks for posting!
This has been a hard one! Indiana Jones was in mind, plus the actors in Battle of Britain wore their jackets like they owned them. The same for 633 Squadron for me (perhaps the first time I ever saw an Irvin as a small kid and it left an indelible impression).
But this is my vote. Ripped - and...
But the thing is, we've all become so accustomed to Sloan's avatar (and the high frequency of its appearance here on TFL over the years), that we have come to immediately associate him with Mr. Bowie!
Very nice indeed. That red lining is killer too and an inspired choice.
Great last photo too!
Nice one!
I recently got my 1 3/4" wide belt from SB - and man alive, what a beast! Unreal quality. I mean, it's off-the-chart! I've never seen a belt like it before and there's no wearing this one...
Ahh, so you're thawing out!!! Easy does it!
I'm glad you had great time and you didn't lose any extremities, as I know it was utterly ridiculous out there! I'm surprised the 'plane started for you - it'd have need the full choke and a push-start!
I'm also very glad your Vanson came in handy as...
Monitor! How are you fairing out there in the Prairies?!
I take note of the weather on the TV as I know you're out there, and I hope you brought a good winter jacket with you! I know a rather bracing -45C would demand it - and I wonder what you brought with you? I hope you're not frozen and are...
