Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

I saw that auction too. That suitcase looks like a Stetson 100 suitcase with something covering the Stetson 100 logo on the inside of the top.

In the pictures it looks like a nice hat Joao. I can't believe Stetson would be that misleading. This ad is really bad. Click on the "more" and read the entire description. http://www.polyvore.com/stetson_4x_buffalo_corral_fur/thing?id=54499101

Wool? The descriptions are very misleading then. They make it sound like a tough hat that is a blend of fur and buffalo. Thanks Joao.

Does anybody have any experience with Stetson's Buffalo fur hats? I think they call it the Bison Collection. I was just curious about the quality and durability of the felt. Thanks for your help.

I've been saving my old sweats too. Even if only a few inches of it are good it could be used for this purpose.

Sweatband Extension Attached is a photo of an older Stetson Open Road. The hat was apparently resized at one time and instead of replacing the sweatband they extended it by using a piece of a similar sweatband. I thought this was a great way of upsizing an old hat and still keeping the original...

From what I remember, that hat came from a batch of old stock found about the time Biltmore was closing it's factory in Canada and moving to Texas. I remember it being a well made hat with a nice felt. I have never seen one of the new Biltmores made in Texas but I would bet the one made in...

Joao, the color was a nice surprise. The size of the crown was the big surprise though! TJ, thanks for the compliment. I love horsehair bands and think they can make any western look good. Because of the height of the crown on this one a wider horsehair band would probably look better but I...

    Western, anyone?

John, I like that black Open Road. Is that a vintage hat or one of the new ones?

    The Conversion Corral

Thanks John. I wanted to make a Gus type hat but if I lower the crown too much the inside of the hat fills up with the crown...if that makes sense. It would probably be a good candidate for a double telescope because there is so much crown. However, I think I'll leave it like it is for now. I...

Resistol 3X Beaver I received my Resistol 3X Beaver hat yesterday. This is the hat that I was asking about a few days ago that has similar dimensions to a Resistol Stagecoach. First of all, the hat looked to me to be silverbelly in the auction photos but turned out to be a rather unique...

    Panama Hat Thread

John, I have quite a few from Shushan's too. They make it so easy to change the look of a straw or even a felt hat. What color do they call the one in the bottom right of the photo? The one in the middle that looks reddish orange. Looks like a great color in the photo.

Looking for an everyday "Adventure" Straw

That is a nice looking Milan, David. Doug, that is the Sunbody hat I usually buy. I have several that I have shaped differently.

Looking for an everyday "Adventure" Straw

Sunbody makes great hats. Tough as nails and cheap. Not as nice as a Panama but will hold up much better. The Guatemalan Palm is better than the Mexican Palm in my opinion. Here is an Indy looking Sunbody. Look around their site. You may find something you like better...
