Wow. I don't understand that. I have one of those in much better shape with the original box. I might have to consider listing it after seeing that final price!
TJ, that is going to be a great looking hat! Was it a Stetson Nutria? Do you have any pictures of the old sweatband and liner? The old Stetson Nutria's always had such beautiful liners and sweatbands. I wish I could find an old Nutria in my size but 7 1/2's are pretty scarce. I do have a new...
Those are two beautiful hats!
Tommy the stamp on the back of your sweatband is the Brotherhood of Leather Cutters, a union and not Lee Hats. However, Lee did make the Marathons.
Looks like you got a lot of miles out of that one, dh66. It has some real character.
I don't know anything about coconut straw hats but Guatemalan straw hats are cheap and very durable. I like to buy the open crown hats from Sunbody and crease them myself. They are easy to crease and fun to...
Definitely stay away from wool hats!
Here is the thread about Sterkowski hats. I have never owned one but from the comments in the thread it appears to be a nice hat for the price.

bowlerman, that hat looks good on you.
I actually don't mind a stiff felt on a hat as long as I can get the crown and brim the way I want it. It sounds like these may be too stiff to make any drastic changes to the crease and brim.
I had to have a couple of basal cell carcinomas removed from the top of my head. That is when the dermatologist told me to stick with felt hats. It is not only the brim width that provides protection it is the felt crown too. A straw will allow UV rays through the crown...and brim too.
Thanks for the info guys. My quick search on the Lounge didn't turn up much. I might have misspelled Mennonite though.
Too bad about all the shellac in the hat. I thought it would look nice with some side dents and the front brim turned down slightly. What kind of sweatband did it have...
This is an interesting looking hat. I like the flange of the brim. Does anybody have one of these or know anything about them?

I wear felt hats year round and it gets hot here in South Texas. I work outside on ranches mostly and prefer the durability of a felt. I have some nice straw hats (Panama, Milan) but I consider them to be more dress hats. I also like the UV protection of a felt hat. A dermatologist told me once...
I think you might be right bowlerman. After a quick Google search I found some sites that refer to it as Buffalo Wool. The site below states that is not technically classified as wool but is very similar.

Welcome Asmo. Very nice hat.
Great looking VS, NewJack. Art's hats are fantastic. It wasn't until I bought one of Art's hats that I realized how comfortable a hat could feel. I have a very long oval and have always had to "break in" a hat before it ever became comfortable to wear. Art's hats...
That could be a nice looking hat without the feather and a different ribbon. With a different ribbon or maybe a horsehair band and a little tweaking of the crown it could have the look of a western style Homburg.
