Pecard's Antique Leather Dressing works well on sweatbands. It does not run like Lexol and can easily be applied with the tip of your finger. It has the consistency of petroleum jelly where Lexol is a liquid and can run on to the liner. I apply the Pecard's and let the hat sit for a day or so to...
Shudde Brothers Stetson 100
Here is my Shudde Brothers Stetson 100. I have had this since last year and never got around to posting pictures. Looks to me to be manufactured in the 1960's.

Congratulations Lorne! Being from South Texas, I have seen quite a few Shudde Brothers hats and they all have been westerns or Open Road style hats. That is why I thought that was an unusual hat for them to make and was probably a renovation. Great find!
Nice hat! Shudde Brothers is a well known hat shop in Houston, Texas. Besides selling hats and making custom hats they did renovation work for Stetson. If it is a renovated hat it will have "RENSH" stamped on the back of the sweatband. Here is a link to one of Alan's hats that has the "RENSH"...
It does make for a very unique hat. I bet you have the only one in Portugal!
Unless they don't keep that information, I would think Resistol could tell you why and exactly how many were made by the order number on the tag.
I always had the same problem with lining up the pinch on my hats. It wasn't until I had Art Fawcett make me a band block that I realized my head was off center! I am a long oval and it is very noticeable on the band block that the front of the oval is off to one side.
Joao,
That appears to be the logo for the office supply store Staples. I doubt they ever sold western hats. Sometimes Resistol and Stetson will make special order hats for company events. I saw a large order of new Stetsons at a hat shop here for a company convention. I can't remember the...
llamaegg, you should try to measure to the nearest 1/8" but I think you are probably going to need a 59. It might fit a little big at first but should shrink down nicely after wearing it awhile. My measurement for custom hats is 23 3/8" and I wear a 60 in the Fed IV. They always feel a little...
Beautiful hat, Caramel! Looks like you have quite a bit of competition on your hats. Has it always been that way or has the competition increased in recent years like with men's vintage hats?
Found this after a quick Google search. Item number 6. Looks like it might be related to the Stetson University and not a hat company employee award. Could be wrong though, they are a little different with the EBay one looking to be older and 14k gold...
Jeff, the new modern Stetson Open Road looks good. I hope you enjoyed your trip to San Antonio. Paris Hatters is an interesting old hat shop. Unfortunately they only sell new hats now. When I was a kid they used to make custom hats. All the old equipment is still in the back. Maybe you got to...
I have had the same experience with my Akubras. I have worn a Campdraft in a very heavy rain to the point the outside of the felt was soaked evenly but the inside was still dry. It had no adverse effects on the hat and in fact I was able to refine the shape slightly while it was wet. It actually...
humanshoes, beautiful work on both the block and the hat! Being able to easily change out the shape of the crown top is a great idea.
Is that a JW sweatband? It looks very nice in the photos.
The feather cost almost as much as the hat. Twenty shillings for the feather and 37 shillings for the hat. Is the hat band another option for an additional three pounds? This has nothing to do with our discussion of the origin of X's but the total cost of the hat in this article is confusing to me.
Those are all great looking hats. I wonder why he decided to wear that bizarre hat at the Grammys? I don't think they were expecting it either because I remember a cartoon character of a smiley face behind him wearing a nice hat not the oversized hat.
Edit: It was the Academy Awards performance...
