Difference between the Stetson Stratoliner and The Open Road

I have an Open Road that has "Royal Stetson" on the sweatband and "Royal De Luxe Stetson" on the liner. I think they are the same thing. Edit: I take that back. They aren't the same thing. I think I just have an anomaly.

    Western, anyone?

You wouldn't like it. It only has a 3" brim :) Very similar to an Open Road but has a higher crown, raw edge and a western two cord ribbon.

Nice jacket. Where are you located? I was trying to determine the postage to zip code 78212.

    The Stetson One-Hundred "100"

Thanks. Having the plexiglass inserts is nice too.

    The School of Hard Knox

I had an older liner cleaned by my local dry cleaners. I was amazed at how good it looked after they finished with it. This was a small dry cleaners and the owner cleaned it himself. He told me he treated it like he would have treated a fancy silk scarf. Might be worth a try if you can find a...

    Fun brief article

I agree with you on this point. I wear mainly Open Road style hats with a brim over 2 1/2" (most are 2 3/4") and I have received quite a few compliments from younger men wearing the cheap short brimmed hats referred to in the article. Most ask about my hats and often want to look at them. I get...

    The Stetson One-Hundred "100"

I have a 1950's Stetson 100 too and the most notable difference between the two of them is the sweatband. The sweatband on the older one is a much softer and more elegant sweatband.

    The Stetson One-Hundred "100"

Thanks. I thought it was interesting that the hat still cost $100.00 in the mid to late 1960's. I believe they first started making these in the early 1950's and the price stayed the same for over 10 years.

Rick, Neat hat! Is the wind trolley not attached? Also, in the last picture it looks like it has a reed or at least the channel where the reed should be. Great looking hat!

    Western, anyone?

John Wayne wore a Centerfire crease in True Grit.

Open Crown Stetsons: A Call (Plea) to Retailers!!

Bob, sorry to hear about your problems. I have an early Mink and Black Premiere Stratoliner. They both were easy to crease with a little steam. Sounds like the quality has gone downhill since the first runs. What color is your hat? Anyway you could post a picture? I'd be interested in seeing it...

(KNIVES) Let's see some sharp pointy objects

Randall's are great knives with a lot of history. Especially the Model One All Purpose Fighting Knife made famous in WWII. The problem is the wait is around 4 or 5 years if you order from the factory. There are a bunch of Randall's always listed on EBay though. People order the knives from the...

They didn't put it on there. It came from Stetson like that.

    Professional Golfers' Hats

I was watching the U.S. Open golf tournament last night and it made me realize how much I miss the way the old pros dressed. Here is one of my favorite pictures of Sam Snead.

Yes, it is original. The gold foil has come off in places making it look worse than it really is.

    Moose River Hat

I have a silverbelly Moose River I bought about 2 years ago. It seems to be the exact same hat as the newer Stetson Stratoliner (not the open crown Premiere version) except it does not have a brim binding. The felt feels like it may be a little thicker too.

    Northwest Hats, Eugene, Ore.

Harv, the Kangaroo colored ribbon looks great with that felt. I prefer a more tone on tone ribbon combination compared to a very contrasting ribbon and felt...if that makes any sense!

    Post New Hats Here!

I realized I had not posted pictures when we started discussing Lorne's Shudde Brothers hat. I was looking for a link to my pictures to show him and couldn't find any! The sweatband does show some light wear. Some of the gold foil is missing but the sweatband is not as stained as it looks in...
