I don't have many brown hats either.
However, my Dobbs Gay Prince, with suede finish, is one of my favorites:
And while I'm still in the queue for my Adventurebilt, my Christy's Adventurer in sable plays the part of my Indy lid:
Generally if it's blowing off your head, you'd want a smaller size. I would pad the sweatband until it shrinks and conforms to your head. Akubras generally shrink a tad.
A modern wool felt is about as good as any other modern wool felt. If you like it, go for it. But be aware that there are significant drawbacks to wool hats, and that if you're serious about hat wearing, your money would be better spent o a fur felt, or used vintage hat.
Zaz, it would he helpful to see the hat and where it's riding on your head. Although people's skull shapes differ, as a general rule, a hat should ride about 1-2 fingers width above your ear. A properly fitted hat should not blow off, nor should it rest on your ears.
IIRC, it's the other way around. I recall Steve Delk of Adventurebilt speaking of vintage side seamed liners that were used in the production hats for Indy IV.
Perhaps someone can confirm or refute.

I wear pretty casual clothing: jeans, t-shirts, hoodies, and various pieces of outerwear, and I wear fedoras with it all. I also do the casual look with a Homburg - which is a...
Rusty, David, Perry, Jeff, Eric: thanks again for the second round of kind words! Art deserves all the credit for this one. It's a great hat and I'm loving it. Wearing it today again actually!
Speedracer: Love the new Dualist! Definitely going to have to get one next summer.

Their Heritage felt...
Bert, Che, John, thanks for the kind words! Art did a fantastic job.
2 1/8" is actually on the shorter end of the brimmed hats that I wear, I'm usually right there around 2.5"; but, I find that 2 1/8" works really well in casual and dressy situations. I wanted a hat that I could do with my...
Ok, it's here!
Lightweight black cherry felt, suede finish, 2 1/8" brim. Two notes: first, apologies for the lint, these dark felts show every little bit, and I didn't have my hat brush at work with me. The second is that this hat is VERY hard to photograph true to life. I took some shots...
