Ask a question, get an answer

The short answer is yes. The long answer is that the price of a vintage hat on 'the market' today depends on a lot of factors, including size. Personally I tend to think that unless it's one of the more iconic Stetson models (Stratoliner, Open Road, Whippet, etc), the issue of of collectors...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

+1 on the Homburg, Howard. Happy to see another one with casual wear. I'm actually wearing my Cavanagh Homburg today too! HJ made some fine lids back in the day.

Got my new Stetson Temple, need to tighten it up a shade

3m foam weather stripping from your local hardware store, with the adhesive backing, works well. If you don't want to stick something in, rolled up paper towel works too. Or you can buy these: http://www.thefedorastore.com/FedoraFelt-Sizing-Strip-p/strips.htm Alternatively, if you have a lamp...

That first Stetson is probably 80's or so. I just unloaded one with the same colored liner and band.

Is there a reason you don't want an Open Road? They're quite similar.

    Hats in Jackson Mississippi?

I never really put the hat through its paces, I only kept it for a year or so, deciding that vintage hats provided me with much better quality at muhc lower prices. Since I'm a size 7, I've gotten some ridiculous deals that just make new hats not a good value for me. I haven't paid more than...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Fepsa is in Portugal, and it's my understanding that they supply Optimo hats in Chicago, which would mean very high quality. Parker at Falcon Park also uses Fepsa felts for some of his hats. I believe, although I'm not certain, that Fepsa supplies felt for Adventurebilt Europe.

The easiest way to tell a pre 1960's hat is to look at the liner. Plastic was introduced to the liners during the first half of the 1960's. I have a 1963 Stetson 100 with plastic on the liner, so it's not exactly 65, but it's a rough barometer. Also, look under the "important hat forum...

Is this Stetson worth the trouble?

I'm sending one off to Northwest hats as well!

Stetson still makes the Open Road, although the quality is not up to vintage standards. They come up with frequency on eBay. Although if you like the style, there are any number of brands who made OR styled hats. Akubra is still making the Campdraft, which can be had open crown.

That would be an Open Road style, not 50's though, judging from the plastic liner.
