It's not that people don't care about quality, it's that there's just no context for the average person today - not just young people - to understand what makes a "quality" hat.
Yeah, the 300 number was from HATCO (the former [?] FL Rep). This topic has been done to death, the market for open crown hats just isn't there, despite how many folks here prefer them.
Bruno wore a Borso on SNL, so he's at least ahead of the curve when it comes to fur felt over wool, even if modern Borsos aren't like their vintage cousins.
I like that brown one above.
Gung hay fat choy!
Wore my Cavanagh Homburg to dim sum this morning with my dad and relatives in from Hong Kong. Today is the first day of the lunar new year as well.
It's easy for a hatter with a flange to do, not so easy without the proper equipment. But yes, a reflange is pretty simple. They pop the hat into the flange, some steam, and iron, let it set, Viola.
Thanks Steve, it's sunny but quite brisk. Downright tropical compared to the east coast blizzard though!
Perry, thank you! I like the brim shaping on the Colonel. Seems aptly named!
Thanks David, looks like that Garrison is being put to good use. Though you really should see the movie...

Alan: You always look great in those old Stetson westerns!
OG: I don't think there's a ribbon Bob has done that I don't like. Great hat!
David: Nice shot of the Penman today. I always like to see the variations in how that felt picks up...

Eric: that is a lovely Hempstead. The ribbon treatment is very unique and seems to suit you well.

Akubras in the U.S. are sold through David Morgan exclusively as far as I know. If you're looking for an off the rack hat, your friend will need to cross the bridge to Oakland and go to Hat Guys on Broadway Ave.

But it looks nice and even to me.
Carbon is a darker grey, but for the life of me, I can't wrap my head around folks saying that it's almost black.
Outdoors, overcast.
Indoors, fluorescent lighting (and wet, obviously)
Outdoors, full sun
As far as Christy's, Top Secret Hats is closing. Top Secret hats =/= Christy's, who...
