Dating Your Hat (A Place to Discuss the Age of Your Vintage Hat)

Sometime in the 60's for that Resistol definitely, would not be surprised if the Knox was as well going by the price.

Art Fawcett VS Hall of Fame

Yeah Rusty, USPS tracking is spotty at best, so I wasn't necessarily surprised that it didn't update. I am surprised that I shipped a hat to Art first class mail which got to him faster than the hat he's shipping to me via priority mail! Of coursr it's probably some minor hitch, and in all...

Art Fawcett VS Hall of Fame

Wish I could report in on my VS, but USPS hasn't updated the tracking since Monday, and the 2-3 day Priority mail promise appears to have been broken..... Here's hoping it'll magically appear before the end of the day.

Straw hats are generally not going to hold up in the rain. A modern Shangtung "straw" which is actually a plastic coated paper will probably have better resilience. Sunbody hats (that's a brand name) should do well in rain, you're actually supposed to get the hat wet every once in a while to...

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Fashion Frank, Congratulations on your find. I'm jealous. But just a quick question. I'm new to the world of hats though I have been wearing cheap fedoras for some time now. I am uninitiated in the ways of the felt. I have seen a few Stetson Open Roads on eBay which were cowboy style and...

    The Cavanagh Club

There might be a price tag under the sweatband if you look. Typically hats were about $10-$25. I have a similarly old Cavanagh Homburg which was priced at $20.

Dating Your Hat (A Place to Discuss the Age of Your Vintage Hat)

Splinter, double check the "Dating Stetsons by Size Tag" thread, but yours should be 50's. Looks very similar to mine, if not a bit earlier,. Seth: I'm no Disney expert, but the plastic on the liners started appearing in the 50's and became pretty standard over the onionskin topped liners in...

    Akubra Squatter

Seriously, if a custom hat is in your budget, there's no reason not to go custom over an off the rack hat. I have a Christy's, the color is nice, the block shape is nice, but the ribbon work is shoddy and the felt is not very dense, therefore not very durable.

Get the Garrison. If a custom hat is in your budget, go custom.

    The School of Hard Knox

Fresh from eBay, a Knox Foxhound. Nice heathered felt on this one, with a "distinctive band" according to Knox advertisements of the period). The size tag fell off the leather as I flipped the sweat down to look at this original price tag. $13.50 seems to correspond with 1959-1960...

The size of the flange depends on the width of the brim. As far as the block you use whatever size you want the hat to be, unless you don't want to remove the sweatband, in which case you use one size smaller.
