To me the aged brass is more like fake patina than blackened brass.
I agree that what you have posted looks good, but it is very different from what aged brass looks like.
It reminds me of these fake brass lightswitches and light fixtures, it doesn't look like actual old brass, i really don't...
Thanks, It's the Vanson version of the Swedish military despatch rider jacket, they did them in the 90s, not sure how many but they don't come up very often. I have also seen them in forest green leather..
I also have a real Swedish version, probably 50s, very nice heavy goatskin:
And i also...
Also, keep in mind that the wind flap is only useful if you ride.
In everyday life you will never have wind strong enough to make it through the zipper.
It's only on a naked bike above 50mph that you need one, otherwise wind gets in through the zipper and you get a baloon back.
IMO there is...
No problems zipping up whatsoever, but i can imagine how a Brooks style flap coule be a pain.
Regarding the brass, honestly it doesn't take that long for the gold look to go away.
Look at this, real brass that has dulled on the left, weird gold platting that never dulls on the right.
Personally...
Welcome,
I have something that is almost a Sheen, the regular cafe racer with a collar.
It's a nice jacket:
Couple observations:
-Like you i didn't want shiny zippers and went aged brass. It's my biggest regret on this jacket.
Fake aged brass doesn't look as good as real aged brass, it...
It also has french seams in the back!
I really wonder when they did the switch, if it was a change on a specific model number, or if it was a custom order thing.
I wish someone did a repro with all french seams!
That's why i'm asking if the colour is the same on top and underside of epaulette.
On most of my vintage jackets, the top stitching on the epaulettes has lost it's colour, but the underside is black as the day it left the caftory.
Sunlight and water is what discolors thread, and water and...
Is it stitched using grey thread? It looks grey in the pics.
If you look at the epaulettes for example, is the thread the same collor on the top side and on the underside?
I have just noticed something:
All the seams between the side panels and the back and front panel are french seams, so are the seams on the back of the arms:
Most current repros i have seen have folded seams, so do most originals i have seen before:
A while back a J-24 with similar...
This label is troubling to me.
Even on 80s Schott jackets this kind of label are usually yellowed a little, with fraying edges and the ink usually fades a little.
I can't imagine how this jacket was stored for that label to remain pristine like that for 70 years.
If this jacket is really a Buco...
That was the first thing i thought too when i saw it.
If it didn't have a label i would say it was an Alexander Leathers or a Simmons Bilt, it just has "that look".
The zipper on the right makes me think of the system they use to allow for gun belt space on old Police jackets like this 602.
Could it be something to accommodate a holster on the right hip? When you carry, you open the zipped gusset to have more room for your gun, when not carrying you zip...
Quick example, only one of these sleeves is made from horse, the other two are cow. Which is which?
Looking at it knowing which is which i can kinda convince myself i can spot differences, but i am sure that if i had to take a test not knowing i would basically be guessing...
(sleeves are in...
What he means is that there is a 99.9% chance you and I would not be able to tell Horsehide or Cowhide apart if we didn't know which was which.
There is so much variation between different types of horse hides and so much variation between different types of cow hide that a blanket statement...
The "in half" means you are measuring the jacket side to side rather than the full circumference.
For example a size 42 will measure 23" from pit to pit, 23x2=46" meaning the jacket has a 46" circumference, so if your chest is 42" you will have 4" of chest ease.
The old "buy your jacket one...
Welcome,
Here is a sizing chart for a Schott 613HH, it's not going to be that same as the 618HH (618 is longer) but it should give you an idea as to how measurements change as you go up and down a size:
I agree with @Guppy though, it's a very personal thing, some like it tighter, some looser...
That looks cool...
First thing that comes to mind are the 1% though, is that not an association people worry about in the US anymore?
I remember reading a few years ago that some riders in the US didn't like wearing black MC jackets because of that link.
Has SOA made that world "cool" enough...
To me the glasses look like goggles with that weird dome shape they used to do in these days, similar to this helmet:
I assume they just have some sort of elastic strap to hold them in place.
The other dude looks like he is holding a vintage open face motocross helmet.
