    LADIES of the LOUNGE

Just me... I used to be a redhead (my natural colour, see avatar!), but recently went black. I also bought myself some new clothes, but I will never part with that pink sweater!

Do I have to curl my hair to be vintage accurate?

I read somewhere that straight hair was seen as "old maid"-like whereas curly hair was seen as softer and more "fertile."

    It's magic....

My apartment is the exact same. It was built in 1926 and there have been very few renovations over the years (I posted photos in the Display Case a few weeks ago!) My imagination goes completely WILD in here. Just the other day I was standing in my bathroom putting on makeup and I thought...

    It's magic....

I totally understand where you're coming from! I collect old movie magazines and I always love it when someone has written their name on it. Or if an address label is still affixed. I really like it when they write comments within the magazine! In one magazine from 1932, someone wrote "I...

HOw are the New Year's resolutions going?

I resolved to watch more of the movies I've been recording and stockpiling and so far it's going great! I'm about to watch Finishing School (1934) with Ginger Rogers in a cute art deco school "uniform." lol

    bye bye television!

GOOD FOR YOU!! You're much better than I am lol Really, though, the only reason I have TV is mostly for TCM. I don't really watch much else outside of that.

    Show us your vintage home!

A new "Waterfall Buffet" that I picked up at a thrift shop in Jersey today. I fell immediately in love with it! And the price tag was outrageous (in my favour, of course!) The same piece would probably go for AT LEAST $300 in Philadelphia. Behind that little mirror in the center is a...

    Just how vintage are you?

Coffee shops or diners with tableside juke boxes You still have these in almost every single diner in Jersey.

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

I just finished watched Loretta Young in the 1931 flick Big Business Girl. It wasn't anything spectacular, but I really enjoyed it. I swooned every single set, object, door, outfit, whatever in the entire movie.

Thinking about a tattoo, but is it what good girls did in the 1940's?

I have very visable tattoos and I go for the 20s/30s/schoolmarm look, but I like the clashing of the two "looks." If you're more of a 1940s glamour purist and you're questioning whether to even get a tattoo, don't get one. Just my 2 cents.

    Bad Vintage Movies

You don't know how much I agree with this. I consider myself a "fun" film fan and my Live Journal reflects it. I've been shunned and spoken down to by these types of film fans via email so I know exactly who you mean. I remember making comments on old message boards about how I actually...

Ladies in Vintage Jodhpurs and breeches

I LOVE vintage jodhpurs!!!! They are very sexy. My husband perks up when a lady in one of my old movies has them on. He wants to get me a pair and I would totally love that !!! pics of your girl, please!

What would you love to wear but have not?

A real pair of 1920s rayon stockings!! I have LOTS of vintage hats from the 20s to the 60s, but never wore them out because 1.) they don't go with anything and 2.) they don't really fit properly because I don't have enough hair to keep them on my head. And a corset. A REAL one from the...

    Thirtysomething woes

I'm glad I'm in my 30s. I'm more awesome now than I was at 19. When I was younger I was always so self-conscience (sp?) of stupid things (incidentally, I've recently been reading old diaries from when I was 19/20/21 -- lol.) Now I just don't care. I feel I "get" it now. For once in my...

I agree with the above. Get the real deal. I have a huge vintage magazine collection and I got almost all of them from ebay. They ALWAYS have all kinds of vintage mags there.

    Lee Tracy

Another Lee Tracy fan here! I've enjoyed him in everythin gI've ever seen him in and he was quite versatile. To me, he, along with Allen Jenkins, is the epitome of the 1930s "wiseguy."

Vintage Discovery Monthly! Historic places to Patronize and visit!

The Broadway Theatre in Pitman NJ. It's almost exactly the same as it was when it opened in 1926. And it's still in operation. It's also one of the few movie theatres in the WORLD that still has it's original 1927 organ - http://www.robbender.com/gallery/albums/broadway/P5234534.sized.jpg...

    Bad Vintage Movies

My thoughts exactly! I tend to adore the "bad" B pictures over polished Hollywood products because I just feel that the "B" movies are cozier and have a more "homely" feel to them. I absolutely LOVE classic exploitation flicks and I have a big collection spanning the 30s to the 60s. Alpha...
