I usually end up liking those "bad" movies more than polished Hollywood films! If a film is "bad" to me, it has to suffer from the mortal sin of being boring. I could name a few, but they are biggish-name films and I'm sure they are beloved by many :o
My look is a mish-mash of everything from the 20s to the 50s and I buy almost all of my clothes at the mall. If you have an "eye" you can put together vintage-esque modern outfits without looking too "over-the-top." Not that I have a problem with over-the-top (quite the opposite!), but this is...
I just exchange gifts with my husband since he's the only family I really have locally (my family buggered off to North Carolina and his family is in jolly ole England!)
Hegot me the iPod Nano so I got him the same $$$ amount of WW2 military memoribilia.
You can buy CDs on amazon.com. The ASV Living Era record label has put out TONS of period music from the 10s to the 50s on CD. They have a series called The Hits Of... and they span year-by-year from 1920 up into the 1950s. I have 1920 to 1939. Not to mention all the cool "themed"...
My husband got me an 8 gig iPod Nano. I only have 246 songs in it so far, but most of them are from the 20s and 30s!
I really wanted one for work -- we're allowed to listen to Mp3 players and I figured it would be a great way to drown out whiney co-workers! Other than that, I don't have...
I never liked Reefer Madness. It has it's moments, but I always thought it was kind of boring and I've only watched it once. I prefer Marihuana (1936).
I have some from Sunday afternoon movies:
Old movie, B&W, maybe 1940s.
An orphanage (?) catches on fire and two little girls hide in a closet. A very 1940s young woman comes and gets them and tells them not to hide in there.
Old movie, B&W, silent.
A very blonde vampy woman is sitting...
I've yet to see a western that pleases me. I can only think of one: the 1930 William Haines movie Way Out West, which is more of a comedy/parody.
As a whole I don't usually like war movies, either, but I do LOVE LOVE LOVE The Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse (1921) and The Big Parade...
Sounds really good to me. But then again, I tend to like those slow "read between the lines" early talkies.
I have it on DVD but haven't watched it yet. Will do next, though!
I guess that would be this?? Haha,
A few more pics because I love the place so much...
Art Deco peep holes
Going up?
Yes, I'm in love with the elevator
Inside the elevator
Atomic age (?) cabinets in my kitchen
This place is the same -- all kinds of unusual touches in the layout. And no two apartments have the same floor plan. We have a door in our kitchen that goes out to an alleyway. I don't know if it's a fire escape or not -- we haven't been out the door yet -- but the apartment across the way...
Bathroom
SHower door with the apartment crest. Is this original?
A view from the living room to the entrance. I love all the arched doorways! There's 3 different closets in that small hallway.
I'm in love!
I'm moving next weekend to a swell apartment building in Philadelphia. If you don't mind, I'd like to show it off a bit! Please excuse the quality of photos -- all I had on me when we went to look at it was my Razr phone.
The building, built in 1926. Only now it's almost completely...
This is me rambling..
I can not express how much a ADORE 30s movies. LOVE THEM. They really did save my life. I discovered 20s and 30s cinema at a very LOW point in my life and learning about them and watching them gave me something to be happy about. I had to learn everything I possibly...
