    Elderly Reactions To Vintage

Not so much my appearance (because I don't really dress vintage), but when I worked at the Home Depot a few years ago I would randomly start conversations with elderly customers about "the good old days." One man came in one time and sung a song about "Amy" to me. He said "Ray Bolger sang...

Who Reminds You of Which Era?

Lo, for sure. Definitely 40s. I've told her that she looks like a "young old lady" in some of her photos because they are that good. (That's a compliment, BTW!) I think she could do all the even decades and pull them off -- 20s, 40s, 60s, and even the 80s!! lol

    High Waisted Pants & Jeans!

There's an awesome pair of jeans at H&M, but I'm reluctant to buy them because they are $60  But the other half of me says to scoop them up while the trend is still hot!!!!

New to this and I need some help.

South Jersey is RIPE with good thrift shops. Try Mullica Hill or the Antiquarium in Philly for vintage clothing and hair tools. I got quite a bit of my stuff from there.

    Hollywood Biography recommendations

For a cool ficto-bio I would suggest The Biograph Girl by William J. Mann. In it, silent film star Florence Lawrence is alive and well living in modern day NYC at age 109. In reality, she killed herself in 1938, but the book takes a twist! I love it.

Anything in the coming months that you are excited for?

I've yet to meet Robert Drake, but I'm friends with him on LJ. I've seen him before, but was always too shy to say hi.

Anything in the coming months that you are excited for?

We went to the '05 Zombie Crawl and haven't been since. We had to cut that short, though, because we had tickets to a Ladytron concert on the same night. We're going to see the Horrorpops at the Troc on March 8th. Can't wait for that -- I haven't been to a rock concert since Ladytron!

The Pace of Life in the Golden Era...vs. today

My dad is always telling me how miserable his parents seemed because they never had a free moment. Both worked full time and in their "free time" they had to do things like cleaning, sewing, laundry, cooking, repairing; all on primitive equipment! My grandmother still used a washing board and...

    Precious...

I don't like to wear vintage clothes and I don't wear repro because I've bought some dresses before and they were TERRIBLE quality for what they cost. I wear "vintage inspired" mostly from H&M and my hair won't hold a curl or roll to save it's life! My look really is a mish-mash of eras and I...

Someone must know - what is this film?

They "remade" The Women in the 50s. It was called The Opposite Sex. Maybe that was it? I've never seen it so I can't be certain.
