I agree with the phooey on them sentiment!!
I blare 20s/30s/40s music right next to Public Enemy, Rick Astley, Gene Vincent, Hall & Oates, Screeching Weasel, and even music from the turn of the 20th century (among many, many others ;) ) I'm sure I'm getting weird stares from people in here...
These really ARE some of my favourites...
...scanned from my old Photoplay magazines.
June 1921
April 1923
October 1935
October 1945
CLOVE = isn't clove peppery tasting?
Yes, there is actually a little bit of the bottom trim left on the side. It comes loose. I want to TRY to find maybe the same or very similar style of wood and replace it. My husband says it would be impossible to find and just wants to stain the area where the trim was. He's more interested...
This is fantastic news to me! The guy at the antique shop said it was only missing one part and he told us exactly where we could get it. He even gave us a quick run-down of the "map" on the inside:
(my camera's flash is way too bright!)
Do you think we should get it re-wired? Old...
I bought this today for $35 in Reading, PA.
I'm not sure what year it is -- I'm assuming it's a '39 because it has the number "39-3367" on it. It's also from the "Model 14 Series."
When I saw the price tag I had to have it.
I have a huge LP collection from my dad's records from the late 1940s to records I buy today at the flea market. I've been a collector all my life (it runs in the family!) I have some older records, too, that I'm guessing are shallack (my grandmother gave them to me), but I have no means to...
Heh -- I kinda like Hot Topic. I buy tops from there. I'm not too "precious" to admit it ;) But yea, I've bought rockabilly-inspired tops, handbags, hair accessories, and sunglasses from there as early as 1997. Nothing new :)
This is a no-brainer for me -- JUST IMAGINE!!! From 1930, it's futuristic look at 1980 and it's corniness never ceases to put me in a good mood! I also love the sets and the songs. Awesome film. It would totally take my mind off the end of the world! :)
You can find it on archive.org. I put a link in my LJ not too long ago. You can d/l it to your computer and listen to it that way. It's in 19 1-hour parts.
Wow, that War Of The Worlds thing that you did sounds really fascinating!
I love Ann and I especially love her in Three On A Match, which is my second favourite movie.
I've seen:
Her uncredited roles, but she can be spotted in most..
The Hollywood Revue of 1929 (1929)
So This Is College (1929)
The Woman Racket (1930)
Free and Easy (1930)
Our Blushing...
The only time I ever get imersed in the "old days" is when I'm watching an old movie. One time I played that "Complete Broadcast Day" from 1939 through my iPod into my stereo and I said to Joe "Let's pretend it's 1939!"
He said "Let's not." (But let me defend him -- he does like vintage...
I love them! I have "South Jersey Movie Houses" and it was an EXCELLENT guide for when I actually went around and took my "Before and After" pics of the places.
Now I'd just like a "Philadelphia Movie Houses" one :)
iPods are from the 21st Century, right [huh]
If so, that'll be my pick. I can listen to George and Gracie at work instead of all the whiners whose lives revolve around the place ;)
I'm such a huge music buff -- I like it all from the beginning of recorded sound to now. Every genre -- I pride myself on my open-mindedness and my huge, diverse collection.
But my favourite song of all-time is "Automatic" by the Pointer Sisters. Followed closely by "Human Touch" by Rick...
