Your FAVE 'Golden Era' Picture Ads.

I love the innovative color palettes that were used in 1920's advertising. Color advertising was just coming into popular use and there was a lot of great creative work going on. Rene Clarke was one of my favorite illustrators of the period and did some beautiful ads for Wesson Oil. This one is from 1921

Tall, dark and handsome.

You ought to read the caption they have for this one on Plan 59. Something about that being a mash note from the mother in the window. Very funny. I like the illustration because it actually shows a young man wearing a homburg.

And clove gum is yummmy...I -wish- they still made clove lifesavers...I would buy them and eat them continuously.

Violet mints are my favorite! I like the ones in the pretty tins, but Chowards are great, too.

Great thread! I love old ads, especially movie star cosmetic ads. I have a bunch but none scanned. I will try to get them done soon to share.

Ok, I scanned a few that aren't framed yet. The lux ads will go in my bathroom and the 7-Up and Puffed Wheat in my kitchen. The big ones are a little cut off because they are bigger then my scanner.
