Opinions wanted: Marathon Refurbishing
Not quite seeing why the sweat needs replacing. Rest looks like a good brushing & some shaping would address. Some places in Ohio that may be cheaper but $130 for this hat is a bit too costly for me unless it has sentimental value. You're talking the cost of a new Akubra, shipping included.... -
I inherited this hat.
I'd go 1960's with that type of ribbon embedded sweatband. The 50's model 25 I had did not have that but late 60's model 100 does. Size tag would help as Jared stated... -

FS: Akubra Lawson in hard to obtain color (62)
Best is felt squares from WalMart craft dept. White, so no chance of sweat making dye run, cost about 50 cents. Cut into strips & tuck behind sweat band. I have some foam strips with adhesive backing but these Akubras will draw in with wear & would want a sticky mess to remove.- gtdean48

Sounds pretty close to sacrilege to me...not having seen your 3X but mine is definitely heads & shoulders above the felt of even my 2 Heritage Campdrafts (only place, besides typed here in the Lounge, Camp Draft is 2 words is the misprinted sweatband of an Akubra Imperial Campdraft). I even... -

Color choice dilemma!
I'd go pecan. Own 2 already & wear them often, very versatile color. Wear it mainly with jeans or khakis. Have 1 black hat, wear it infrequently. Good to have a black hat but not necessary. IMHO -
Better Deal - Optimo or VS
I do similar with emails. If my Drafts folder could only talk. I too have typed up numerous quick replies only to hit cancel....like counting to 10... Bottom line, no established basis for "value" to use to determine "better deal"....too subjective eval of end products...Next!
