I'm halfway through watching the film "The Professionals" and I'm liking the mackinaws which the four leads wear. The coats are copies of the US Army officer's short greatcoats with matching cloth belt, but the coats in the film are unlined and made from a really rough wool material.

How did I miss this thread? Several years back on another forum there was a similar discussion. I made up this sheet using a template (click for large).
For what it's worth, that's pretty common on military dress uniforms, obviously to allow shiny buttons to be removed before cleaning the jacket so the buttons don't get mangled during cleaning, plus to make it easier to polish the buttons.
Thanks for posting that opinion. I've only watched one (I think) of the McCoy episodes and saw only the clowning around. I'll have to make a point of seeing more of him, although I don't really have access to old Dr Who shows without buying them ($$$$).
