Here's a couple of official images from Aquascutum. The first photo shows their classic Filey raincoat, still available, hanging alongside two of their more modern shorter trench coats (they still offer a long traditional trench coat, now called the Bogart, as others have posted about previously...
Burberry coat, good condition, mostly. It's hard to tell condition from photos but if you look at the components/ingredients tag you can gauge how much wear: that tag will be fully legible on a nearly new or lightly used coat, but on a well-used coat the white lettering rubs off as in the photo...
Thanks for posting this, which reminded me to take a look through their site again. I'm pleased to see they've upgraded their photography considerably: they used to have just a 3/4 view, but now they've added front, back, side, and detail photos of each jacket, which really helps to show off...
^ You got lucky, man: that's an excellent coat and you should have paid a lot more!
I was going to say the button config is the later version, but you found the tag which proves it. As to the different manufacturers, it's possible the coat and liner weren't issued together but one never knows...
I now have a single-breasted Burberry raincoat like Philip's above, except mine is navy blue, and it's old enough to have a foot tab (although the button is missing for that). It's pretty close to mint, even the lettering on the % components tag has not rubbed off. It's got the original owner's...
It's a really good sociological study and shows how perceptive HST was in those day. He makes it clear the Angels were losers, long before they stomped him.
Some info from one of our members:
I checked the USN regs and Pers-329-MEB A2-3, issued 2/14/1947, included a reference tp officer uniform changes: "Black sleeve stripes on overcoats are no longer required."
Great info Gamma68, thanks for posting. I see what you mean by no one wearing biker jackets, but the police aren't either, and a lot of the citizenry are wearing just t-shirts, all of which suggests it was really warm weather. On a side note I'd be willing to bet that many early bikers wore A2...
There was info on these jackets posted in another thread around here somewhere, try a search. Edit: here's a post I made which was info I saw on another forum

Thanks folks, for the info re Eccleston. For some reason I had in my head the idea that he'd quit because he thought the whole enterprise lowbrow or something (must have been something misleading which I read a long time ago). I'm glad to learn it was a principled choice.
Does Eccleston have a hate-on for Doctor Who? I'm sure he's done other work but I haven't seen it. He should have done the job for three seasons, say, and cashed the cheques like most actors would.
Scenes from the film "Desperate Journey", 1942. The jackets are odd, might be the B2, but look more like a non-historical design whipped up the costume department.
