Zombie Apocalypse : What would you wear?

Great idea for a thread! In a modern world that's rather troubled and neurotic, it's good to have something light hearted to muse on.
But what I'd wear when all hell breaks loose? I honestly wouldn't care if I was doing an Arthur Dent and wearing pyjamas and slippers - just as long as I have some 12 gauge Zombie Max (by Hornady. Yes, for real!) in the Mossberg 500 Rolling Thunder, it'd be all matters on the day!

Arthur Dent had to go through things that are far worse than zombies...
I would take his towel when zombie outbreak happens.

That Mossberg 500 looks like a hand cannon.

I expect what I would realistically be wearing is a bloodied, torn-up version of whatever I had on when I got turned into a zombie!

I expect that would be 9 out of 10 of us!

In all seriousness, I'd try to get to the nearest police station for the guns and the riot suit. Seriously, this is what you need. Zombies are kinda like a riot, really.

Or the Peruvian version because might as well go full sci-fi and do things in style.

Given that the zombies would be slow zombies, not the ridiculous fast zombies, I agree that the weather and environment is going to be the biggest threat to most survivors. All you gotta do is get soaked by rain on a cool day once without being ready for it and you probably won't survive, even if the nearest zombies are a hundred miles away.

Bingo! You don't want to get close to zombies in the first place. People seem to forget the fact that a zombie apocalypse is still an apocalypse and therefore the environment is probably a bigger issue.

@high-maintenance yeah I can't wait for that! They've aged beautifully after only a year already.

Yep, cordura nylon - lighter and easier to move in - definitely not leather. It won't look as cool but if this were real (and not some TV soap opera), you wouldn't give a hoot 'n hell.

The thing about the end of the world is, no one is going to be making any more synthetic polymer stuff, so the stuff on your back is basically the last stuff you'll ever own besides what you can scavenge, and scavengable stuff will be depleted very quickly in a scenario like this. So wearing Nylon and cordura may be cool for a few years but eventually it will fall apart and become basically useless, whereas leather clothes can last you the rest of your life, being worn day in and day out. I really think Leather is the best option at least for bags jackets and boots.

Leather for the win. On that note, footwear will be an even bigger concern than clothes since it's far more difficult to replace and will wear out faster.

That depends. My enemies are polar bears, so wearing their flesh will be pretty bad ass.

Yeah, I'm with Monitor on this one; threat of nuclear war was always a scare for me growing up. The Day After, Threads, scared me so much Red Dawn looked like a best case scenario!
Kids today don't have to grow up with that existential threat, so they turn to zombie apocalypses. Seriously, the walking dead TV show is a cake walk compared to The Day After or Threads.

I can laugh about it now, but my top 3 nuclear apocalypse stories would be;
1. Failsafe.
So much better than Strangelove because it really wasn't something to laugh about at the time. Pop quiz! Can anyone remember the event that precipitates the launch of the US bombers? It's a 'nice' period touch, and is never mentioned again after the start of the movie because everyone is desperately trying not to be overcome by events. The remake with Clooney was pretty good too. Especially the scene where SAC put his wife and son on the radio to try and recall his bomber, and he ignores them 'cause that's the kind of commie trick SAC warned them about in training. Chilling Cold War 'logic'.

2. By Dawn's Early Light. Brilliant, and totally chilling, especially the out of his depth acting President advised by a Le May wannabe. Powers Boothe is great B-52 captain.

3. WWIII (mini-series). Vietnam vet David Soul leads National Guard training exercise in Alaska at precise moment Russian paratroopers invade to seize oil field. Rock Hudson as POTUS unable to prevent catastrophe.

Zombies? Doesn't worry me at all. More worried about Captain Trips

Not sure that's entirely true but who says I plan to live more than a couple of years like this?
