Zombie Apocalypse : What would you wear?

Unlike most replies here, I wouldn't be dressing for bite protection because I wouldn't plan on hanging around to get bit. I'd dress for comfort and speed with plenty of spaces to carry weapons and supplies.
I'd be looking to do the ol' "shoot, move, and communicate" until I got to a safe base where I could set up strong defenses.

For headwear, my Tru-Spec boonie. And a wool watch cap..because I'd migrate to Canada where the corpses would freeze in winter. Then I'd bust up the frozen corpses into small pieces and incinerate them.

I can't bite through nylon... The heavy stuff used in motorcycle gear isn't easily punctured by teeth. The extra weight and inferior water repelency of leather is what would make me choose nylon. Leather is cooler looking though. If blood or saliva is the assumed transmitting agent I'd want something non absorbent as well. Nylon can be hosed off and hit with harsh sanitizing chemicals without much issue. Trying to sanitize leather fully would be tough.

Ah my mistake....I always think of mesh when i think of nylon as thats my only nylon style gear.

Yep, cordura nylon - lighter and easier to move in - definitely not leather. It won't look as cool but if this were real (and not some TV soap opera), you wouldn't give a hoot 'n hell.

I wouldn't wear steel toes in a situation like that. They're heavy and not as comfortable as soft toes so they'd slow you down and what are they going to protect you from? Steel toes are best at protecting from dropping items on your toes. Is that a major worry in this hypothetical situation?

I'd probably wear the following:
An armored nylon motorcycle jacket for protection. The nylon is lighter than leather and would hold up to most things as well if not better. Rain especially would be a pain in leather as it would soak it up over time.
A good pair of boots that are comfortable to walk in. Right now I'd choose either a pair of White's Smoke Jumpers if spending a lot of time off road or my Nick's bow hunters (wedge soled boots) if mostly on road. If possible I'd also carry a very light weight pair of running shoes for situations where speed would be important.
One pair of light weight zip-off hiking pants for wet situations and a pair of jeans for the rest of the time.
Long sleeved nylon hiking shirt and a merino wool t-shirt

Last line of defense- kick the zombie right in the head !!

Definitely something layered and durable, like double denim and flannel, which would serve me over winters, as well as serve my need for durability. Same with my boots. I'd go for my Carolina loggers. They're heavy and would slow me down, but they're very durable. Although my bush jacket carries a lot of pockets, it would reduce my movement and wouldn't provide a lot of protection. So, I'd probably go with this:

Denim is definitely a good choice.

Leather, especially FQHH horsehide, can be limiting your movement.

Whereas, denim is thick, bite-resistant and flexible at the same time. + the cool factor.

Good point. But do Zombies use flame throwers?
No, they probably don't, but everything around you would be falling apartment, so it's conceivable you'd be exposed to fire or flammable substances at some point. Although if all humans were to blink out of existence most of our civilization would slowly start to crumble and be re-claimed by nature (see the cities in the no man's zone on Cyprus), some things require regular human management or they'd go badly wrong. These would be only a relatively small number of points, which could be avoided, but would still ruin small geographic areas utterly. If you needed supplies or equipment which were in those areas you'd have to brave them.

Forget all that. Just try getting a plumber on a Saturday night.

I'm no expert, but one thing I learned from Fukushima is that the cracked spent fuel storage pool almost drained. That pool by itself contained enough fuel that without cooling, should it have reached criticality, the resulting fire would have released enough radiation into the atmosphere to kill everyone. Everywhere.

There's a lot of reactors in the world. Who would maintain them all if civilization crashed to a halt?

The main point I'm trying to make is that our infrastructure is now so developed that it's life threatening if not maintained correctly.

All this zombie stuff makes me recall the mid 1980s when my friends and I thought that a nuclear war was just around the corner. We were what was called at the time Survivalists and we had all this stuff ready for real. Forget zombies, we were worried about the Soviets. We all saw a film made at the time called Threads, couldn't be any worse than a zombie attack. I still have some of my stuff, so if your zombies do come out to play I, for one, will be ready!!
