I recommend sending him your measurements and just ask him what size would work best. Depending on the jacket you are getting and the pattern, he has historically done a good job fitting folks as far as I know. Are you going for his standard 'off the rack' sizing or are you customizing...
My Belstaff Knockhill from the motorcycle collection weighs 8lbs+ sans armor. Are you sure you saw a Belstaff leather jacket get torn and not a waxed cotton jacket? I suppose there are fashion versions of Belstaff leather out there but I haven't seen one in the wild.
There are two pics up on eBay; I think the second pic is the jacket actually for sale? They are different jackets. The first pic is the pic of the OP's jacket (no hand warmer pockets), the second pic has hand warmer pockets...
Assuming the weather in San Francisco is as I remember it, those military jackets are very appropriate. I remember experiencing 80s in Palo Alto/Mountain View and then dipping into the 50s while in the city, etc., with plenty of shadow and wind.
80% of right handed people have left feet that are a smidge bigger than their right feet. I have the exact opposite problem: my right foot is a little bigger than my left so with new boots it takes a bit longer for the right boot to break in.
If you decide to go with JL, once you decide on a jacket style, I recommend going with the fit jacket approach: he'll send you a comparable jacket for fit pics, which will help zero in on the fit. And, ultimately, even if something is a little off, he'll make it right.
It feels halfway between the two, but because it's thinner than a typical jacket of either, it's hard to really make a comparison. It certainly doesn't want to stand up on its own, but it doesn't bounce as much as the goat I've experienced, either. I believe it would be 'acceptable' as a...
It's the lightest hide I've had the pleasure to own; I definitely was looking to extend the wear of the jacket through the warmer months. But summers can get 100+ in Texas, so I'll be wearing mesh when it gets to 85+.
Upcharge for Kangaroo was around $350 for this particular hide. It's the same hide used to make professional racing suits, which Alan also can make. I saw a suit and asked about the leather when I visited him back in October. I didn't ask him about other colors, but I'm toying with the idea...
Wanted to share a few pics of my new Johnson Leathers Kangaroo café racer jacket. Kangaroo is mentioned occasionally here but I haven't seen many examples of it. It is unbelievably light, but offers superior abrasion and tear resistance so I think it's ideal for motorcycle jackets in...
I own a beige/cream suede jacket and use a spray to keep it water and stain repellent. That said I only wear it on semi formal occasions and not to BBQs and packed bars and the like.
Sounds like you ride a motorcycle. And that your leather jacket(s) have been soaked and retained water. In my experience it's best to waterproof leather with Pecards/Renapur prior to getting the jacket wet. While it doesn't make the jacket 100% waterproof, it will keep things dryer. Each...
