yeah, there's a top stitch and bottom? stitch. Not sure on the terminology, but the thread that feeds through the machine, and the thread from the bobbin. At least in traditional sewing, not sure if a leather machine is different.
I know this is one of those things only perfectionists will...
Thank you all for kind remarks. It was a community project : )
But, first chink in the armor. That "I like that contrasting stitching" remark got me thinking. I went back to my notes and realized they screwed up. They sent me either cognac or tan stitching. What's weird is part of it was...
just noticed how the photo has it really contrasting. Maybe how sun was hitting it. It's a little more subtle in person. I went with olive against the seal brown.
yeah, I looked at a bunch of photos. Seems like some people have the sleeve come down more and use less knit, but others have...
Drum roll please. Eagle has landed. The Mr. Proper/Amelia Earhart/G1 special.
Overall, I'm pretty pleased. Thank you to Mr. Proper because I think my creation would have gone sideways very quickly without having his reference points. There's a lot of details you can't assume.
Leather (prem...
thank you again for posting and giving me info. I'll be sure to treat with love and respect :)
Out of curiosity, what's the difference in the gold label and these:
Different era? Different line?
Vanson killing it. Seen a few beauties on here lately. Was looking at a comet octagon, but then saw that vintage model c with the brass hardware. They got a 15% off right now. Can start the long journey with the comp weight leather on a C2.
Surprised the medium is such a good fit. Do...
$75 holy sheeeeet. Wow. What a steal. yeah, I'm noticing a few differences in the C2, on the belt loops and what not. wow. That's killer.
I saw this...
ah fantastic. cool to know. yeah, so hard to tell with photos. I'll give it a fair chance for sure, see how the leather is and all that. Depending on how it fits and what kind of shape it's in, I'll probably give it a water dunk and let to dry in a not too hot place. I got some conditioner...
first off shout out to Arrow Cleaners and Leather in KC for doing the alterations. It's always scary buying something online, even scarier trying to communicate how something should fit. But they crushed it.
This is a Schott James (aka 165). Haven't seen too many posted around here. I wish...
ty. Different brown, but I can always play with that with some coconut oil or something. Many thanks
Edit: I scooped it up. Thank you, Terry. I'm down the rabbit hole so to speak. Should be fun.
good to know. From my amateurish poking around, I've been able to spot a few different styles/eras to the Brooks cafe racers at least. The one I noted, one with two curved lines on the front, and one similar to what I noted, but 2 panel back.
I've seen a couple youtube videos from TFL's own...
Brooks Cafe Racer gold label. What do you guys think about these? I know a TFL poster is fond of them. This seems to be the thicker leather version with the gold label and that thicker piece of leather behind the zipper. There's a whole bunch being offered on ebay in black and brown, but...
I remember hearing, (but like Carlos said, who knows if it's true or what they put out there), that they were the first company to put zippers on jackets. So that's interesting if the history goes back to the 1920s, not sure how verified that can be.
Going back to the original question though...
that's amazing, Ton. He's been working on that for like what, a week?
what leather did you go with? Can't tell if that's steer? And color?
I can't wait to get my jacket next few days. I want to confirm some measurements, but more so confirm I like the leather (or the samples). I did a...
^^^^ yes, exactly the look I'm going for. 19 shoulder, 23 ptp is my magic number. If the bottom hem and abdomen are good numbers, I might be in.
so those sleeves weren't altered for you? They look about perfect for me. Usually a 7.75 inch on the upper arm, 6 inch around the forearm area...
the specs on the Sportster would fit me like a glove. Only thing I'm worried about is the sleeve "poofiness" lol. It's my one pet peeve. Prefer them narrow.
Can you measure the bicep area and wrist opening? Like lay it flat and one side measurement kind of thing.
And also the bottom hem...
yeah, the one I got coming was $330. But there was $30 to fix the collar and another $30 because I wanted him to take out the arm pit gussets. So thinking $250-270ish. And that was with their supposed best/thickest leather. So there's some variables there.
