Driving golden era cars in the modern era

No engine I've had has had a problem with E15. The high-compression engine in my '68 Camaro loves the stuff. My late father swore by it for his LT-1 powered '69 Corvette. I am thinking about setting up my '28 Chevy engine to run on E85. I swear ethanol bashing/"pure gas" seeking is how...

Driving golden era cars in the modern era

Great car! My brother's second-favorite vehicle. I'm awfully fond of the full-size '65 Fords myself - they took the good idea of the '63 Pontiac and perfected, IMO. I'd love a Country Squire in metallic green. I'll bet you get tired of hearing "cool Galaxie", though. -Dave

Cool, cool, cool, BoPeep. Congrats on the new Shoebox. Whatever you do, don't shave those rear door handles! -Dave

    Time Warp Towns

I remember several towns like that in northern Wisconsin. They're tough to find in Michigan - freeways (or even bypasses on the state highway) tend to kill them right quick, not to mention the effect of a Wal-Mart... -Dave

    Boater faction!

That's the one. I apologize for all the unkind things I said about you when your bid showed up. This is, however, the most I've ever paid for a hat (all at once, at least). -Dave

    Boater faction!

Fit is about how I expected. Not squeezing, but it doesn't feel at risk of blowing off. The only real disappointment is that the brim is bent slightly upward at the front, requiring that I wear the hat tipped forward on my head. -Dave

    Who Is She?

Even though the men’s styles from that era aren’t necessarily 100% my favorite, something about the 1920s in general really appeals to me. This sounds weird, but when I see a photo or an artifact from that decade, it looks like home. -Dave

Is it too early for a White Dinner Jacket?

Chowder, maybe. "Soup" sounds too thin. ;) -Dave

Is it too early for a White Dinner Jacket?

I had never realized “black tie” was so rigid a term. I’m going to throw a party and specify “soup and fish” on the invitations. -Dave

The Elephant in the Room - Man Purse

Seb, For a happy medium, I'm picturing something like a tincloth or canvas bag with lift-the-dot fasteners: lightweight, good looking, and quick to access. Now, where to find such a beast... -Dave

What has quality and style today

The recession must have killed style and quality? I've been thinking about a new desk chair as of late. My current one has both quality and style, but the ergonomics (or lack thereof) are catching up with me. -Dave

    Golden Era Hunting Equipment

I once heard that Al Capone was ticketed in Wisconsin for mowing down a deer with a Thompson SMG. I couldn't help but think of that story when I read this, although I'm sure you mean the semi-auto version. Does Wisconsin have the same rule as Michigan that limits hunting rifles to a...

Is it too early for a White Dinner Jacket?

One more vote for it being okay this time of year in SoCal. Not in Michigan, however. Here the May 15 to September 15 guideline works quite well. I too would avoid the spectators with the white dinner jacket and boater. I try to keep my eccentricities to a maximum of two per outfit. -Dave
