In search of a tough as nails shearling jacket, advice needed.

I don't think Aero and Schott are in the same league !

How much thicker/heavier are the hides on Lost World jackets than other companies?

I have asked Will several times about this he won't make a B2 as ' there is no interest in them '

    My Original Aeroleather

Surely that's an original ? [ not an original as in early Aeroleatherclothing]

Why is Cirrus more expensive than Aero??

Seems like you misunderstood my tone in the post. I find all the people very friendly to deal with at Aero especially Amanda and Will. I think though that because they are so friendly that they tend to make promises that sometimes they can't keep. Their prices are also fair and reasonable...

Why is Cirrus more expensive than Aero??

I have had a custom jacket on order from Aero for almost 12 months , so beware as they are always ' too busy ' when I enquire about progress. If costs are a major factor then don't go custom as people throw away the price lists and things get expensive quickly. Why not buy a second-hand...

How much thicker/heavier are the hides on Lost World jackets than other companies?

Edward, Lost worlds isn't really that expensive considering some of The Few B-3 's are around £1250. My Few B2 was around £1000.

Great to hear you will test it out. Bet you still can't fasten the throat snap though ! [ I never could]

Why is Cirrus more expensive than Aero??

I have heard that the US sheepskins aren't as durable as Irvins. This could be the tanning process or the Corseal topcoat used to seal the skins against water and gasoline. Certainly the Naval jacket rot because of sea water contamination. If you compare a LW jacket to say an Aero, the LW...

How much thicker/heavier are the hides on Lost World jackets than other companies?

This subject has been covered many times before on this forum and VLJ. Lost Worlds are very well known for using very thick heavy hides for all their jackets much more so than other companies. Some would say their materials are too heavy, but that's the way they do it. I once owned a special...

Why is Cirrus more expensive than Aero??

I think Aero make many more jackets than Lost worlds do. Also LW will only use ' US sheepskins correctly tanned as the WW2 spec ' This has led them to use ever more expensive materials from a shrinking source so that they may only be available as a special order. I have owned B3's from both...

Why is Cirrus more expensive than Aero??

I think you are mistaken about prices. The LW Anj4 is around £650, the equivalent Aero is £500. no where near 70 % more expensive. If you want a good jacket, go for Aero, Eastman, RMNZ or Lost worlds.

Maybe Paden's company could make one. ?

Why is Cirrus more expensive than Aero??

I've had four Cirrus jackets. Two new and two used. The new Adams jacket was made from amazing horse hide and was of very high quality. All the others were sheepskins and were way, way below the quality of Aero in materials and construction. On another thread about tough sheepskins, the...

In search of a tough as nails shearling jacket, advice needed.

RMJ is still going http://www.realmccoys.co.jp/catalog/default3.php?cPath=21 Confused yet ? If you are looking for a warm non-authentic [ there less expensive] jacket then a second hand Aviation Leathercraft fits the bill. They come up all the time and are very warm.

You must be joking surely ? RMNZ still make some of the best military repro's available. Their Few range is very comprehensive and constantly changes.

In search of a tough as nails shearling jacket, advice needed.

If you want a really tough sheepskin then there is only one jacket maker that comes close. Lost Worlds New York make a very very heavy solid B3 and Anj4. I have both and they are truly as tough as a blacksmiths nail. They use skins from mature sheep so the actual leather part of the hide is...

Thanks, I hadn't noticed the pocket flap shape before you mentioned it. Some versions are more scalloped. If you a member of VLJ there are several period photos there in a dedicated thread.
