There is a specific piece for binding brim edges for specific widths of ribbons. I know some custom hatters don't do 4 ligne ribbon edge binding but do larger, 6 ligne, because they don't have the right "jig". I only know of specific sewing machines to sew in sweatbands not... -

The Fedora that fits your face.
Think symmetry = you need more crown above the brim to offset face below your eyes = vintage style like Fed4, Campdraft, etc. Your size also says a 2 5/8" brim. Hatband ribbon is personal preference.... -

I knew the importance of the hat when the scene showed Indy silhouetted against the sky & he threw off the robe & put on the hat...it was THE hat & it mattered! -

Not as fine as rabbit, no where near beaver. Actually, I think it is a rabbit/bison blend. Priced about the same as rabbit but supposedly much more rugged & durable than a straight rabbit or beaver/rabbit blend. Can't be that old since the collection has not been around that long =... -

Can a dried out leather sweat band be saved?
I can't use soap or detergent that has dyes or perfumes added but use Lexol wipes on my sweatbands for years with no problems. YRMV.... -
