We had a beautiful, rambling old New England-style factory building right on the lake in the town where I grew up. It was a leather tannery from the 1880s to the 1990s. When it closed, there was speculation that it might be turned into loft condominiums, but ultimately the owners decided they...
Not a ton. It first came up here. They are apparently based on the Ford of France (later Simca) Vedette, which itself resembles a baby '49 Mercury. Power initially came from a four cylinder, but was later upgraded to the European version of the V8-60. I'm not clear if they were ever offered...
Neither had I. It's French; built on the same platform as the Vedette, which was itself originally intended to be Ford's entry into the compact market.
That coulda been our Mustang in the fifties!

I wasn't quite five months old. I would liked to have seen them in their glory. Their old catalogues are enthralling; they're such a peek into what the everyman of any given year was wearing and using.

I'll take prolific CGI over them wrecking a perfectly good '58 Fury hardtop. Incidentally, in the book the car is a Fury sedan, which didn't exist in 1958. Probably an error, but it can be read to add to the supernatural nature of the beast.
Realistically, if they're going to update the...
Hmm, like I said, I know nothing about Olneys or Tesis, except what I've read here: Maybe they are really stiff. My Lee, while in no risk of losing its shape, has a good bit of spring to it.

I regularly view the Lounge on my iPhone. Unfortunately, when I reply to a thread, my subscription to that thread is often removed, so I don't seen later replies.
Anyone know why this is happening and if I can do something to prevent it?
Thanks,
Dave
Wow, I missed that link the first time around. Tempting, very tempting, but I'd better not...
Still, it would almost be worth it to find out if the plotline just centered on counterfeiting, or whether there was espionage involved too.

Well, I thought I had found somebody close, but alas, it appears the website has not been updated since early 2010, so they may be another victim of the economy.
It's too bad, too, as The Zinnia, Tulip, Fox Tail, Sage, Magnolia, Elm, and Mount Baker are all pretty convincingly vintage. No...
Here you go:
I’m not saying it’s buttery supple like an expensive Panama (I hear they’re almost like linen), but it’s definitely not cardboardy like it seems some posters are implying. The crown on mine has a definite springy quality to it and isn’t in any respect less comfortable to...
There’s no real irony in any of these things if they were purchased for their utility, even if it isn’t in the same context as what may appear to be their intended purpose. Which is not to say that any or all of these things are always purchased for their intended purpose.
Expensive...
I don't have much experience handling any boaters other than my vintage Lee, but I would say my boater isn't significantly stiffer than my inexpensive panama from Panama Bob, and is indeed significantly more flexible than my Dobbs Shantung. I find it quite cool and comfortable.
