A-1 Jacket / A1 Flying Jacket - The ultimate Golden Era flying accessory!

Looking out the 44 now, but for comparison the 42 is: Eastman Leather Company A-1 (42) Weight = 1.0 kg Shoulder width = 47 cm Pit-to-pit = 60 cm Front length = 59 cm Back length = 65 cm (from top of back panel to bottom of waistband) Arm length = 65 cm (including knitted cuff) “Epaulette...

A-1 Jacket / A1 Flying Jacket - The ultimate Golden Era flying accessory!

I'll dig out my measurements tomorrow. Can't help you with the steer version though, I've never handled this version. However, it was baggier and less true to pattern.

That's the same one (Silvermans), but I'm aghast 'Please note: due to an error at the factory, this leather jerkin has been manufactured with the buttons on the opposite side. This does not affect the quality of the jerkin in anyway.' It's a girl's jerkin... :-O

LVC Menlo Cossack washed goatskin (XL, 2008)

This one is still available Edward, but is lined (the raw interior is no longer made). Personally, having owned/worn both I prefer the unlined jacket.

Glad to hear that you're enjoying the jacket Boyo. Bovine is an unusual way of describing it (it was tailored in Italy), and strictly a cow is a female 'bovine', whilst a steer is a neutered male. As mine was missing any obvious...er...clues then I couldn't tell without conducting a DNA...

And look over the images posted ...do you ever see any images of the wearer's feet... :-S Tricky choice, I like this pattern too - at the price I'm struggling to justify the purchase in view of the limited wear (for me here in the SE of England). On the other hand, I've just come across a...

Oh no! Talon zipper on Aero 38-1711-P stuck

Has to be a reason why the 'Hookless' was superseded by the 'hooked' version (whether Talon, Crown or Conmar, etc.)...? Quaint yes, 'period' certainly, but practical? Not if your poking your tongue out trying to align it...

Oh no! Talon zipper on Aero 38-1711-P stuck

Might be necessary to remove the top 'stop' from the 'male' side (prising it apart), remove the slider from that side (carefully) then slide it down again. Replace the stop (crimp it tight) and you're done. Try the simpler routes first though. Good luck!

Oh no! Talon zipper on Aero 38-1711-P stuck

I'm surprised, Talons are usually pretty robust - Crowns and Conmars are usually more finnicky.

Equally, I have no problem with observations being voiced about the quality of the execution of the design - neither appear to have a Peter Pan collar IMO, although the treatment of the leading edge of the shawl collar has been treated differently. You'll see similar changes in the LVC Menlo...

Alexander Leathers Simmons and Aero Aeromarine Discussion

It's just an observation, but a heated discussion about priority/timing over these two designs overlooks the fact that the Aeromarine is acknowledged to be an homage to an original 20s/30s jacket (already pictured) with some subtle mods, notably a lining. This jacket (and others currently in...
