Heck, IF you ever found on still in the crate, you could put it in a building and charge admission, then retire off the people coming to see it.
There never were any Jeeps in crates. Those ads were for companies selling government surplus listings (which could be had for free). They didn’t sell...
Finally you can have a Willie and Joe shirt of your very own, and licensed by the family! http://www.billmauldin.com I hope they're good quality. I just ordered one of each of these and if they are indeed silkscreened, I'll probably buy extras...
All that being said, I am saddened to see his...
There’s a natural inclination to gloss over the past. EVERY generation thinks they had respect for their elders, could be trusted for their work and everyone was kind to one another. If you really dig deeply into history, you’ll find people are just as surly, angry, dishonest and worthless than...
Nothing new there. Soldiers have been copying the “veteran look” for generations. Marines going to the Pacific would often wad up their new uniforms in cargo nets and pull them behind the troop ships to "salt" them up and make them look well worn so they wouldn't stand out. When I was active...
-“Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls
-Rosie O'Donnell, "Sleepless in Seattle"
Before movies, I guess people had unrealistic views of life through books and poetry. But yes, movies have probably given us all a seriously messed up view of what life should be like and given us all a level of...
Hee Hee Hee... lol :p
Remember, MacArthur's visor hat had all embroidered insignia on it, too. But I agree, that winter hat looks odd with the embroidered insignia. The summer weight one looks great with it, in my opinion!
But as for the eagle styles, the “pointy” one is what most collectors...
I spent a lot of time at APG, toured there twice, went there for CTLT through Army ROTC then as a LT through Ordnance Officer Basic Course. I loved the place, even went back for a final visit this past summer when we were there for the first time since I was there in 1998. I'll miss the place...
I sent my copy of the hardbound book to Billy Tucci for him to sign (I figured I really should have him sign it as my name is in the "Thanks" section in the back and I have in the past not gotten authors to sign books I'm listed in before).
Billy not only did so, check out what he did! This...
I just heard that Bill Mauldin will be getting his own postage stamp! There’s no release date yet but it’s going to be out this year.
More info here: http://www.usps.com/communications/newsroom/2009/pr09_118.htm#bill
You can bet I’ll be buying and using a LOT of these!
Of course, Willie and...
While you’re splitting hairs, the Brits were late to the party as well. Chinese people were dying at the hands of the Japanese (yes, the Axis as well) as early as 7 July, 1937.
Hey, if the shoe fits... :eusa_doh:
Wow. You can't get it to. Convenient, isn't that? Boy, I didn't see that coming! Reminds me of the rocket scientist who recently argued with me that the M-20 bazooka was used in the ETO before VE day, backed only by a third-hand vet recollection when it's a...
Amen, it's always someone who's "seen" the photo but can no longer produce it. As for M-1 rifle sights, don't get me started. NO WW2 movies or TV shows made since the 50s have gotten the right sights on the rifles and I'd say less than 25% of re-enactors do, either.
I agree, I'd love to see...
I never thought I’d be writing this, but even though it bends the history to the breaking point in a few places, I loved this movie and regret not seeing it on the big screen. I’ve watched the DVD many times already.
After I left active duty in the Army, I was a PR rep for a construction company doing a high-profile project in Seattle, right through the area that "Sleepless in Seattle" was filmed on the houseboat scenes.
I had to document all interactions I had with the public to pass along any issues to...
HAPPY HOLIDAYS, everyone!
This is my 2009 Christmas card, the web-friendly colorized one. I do a b/w card version for relatives every year and I usually also color and scan one for online purposes. It's been a dachshund theme for many years now. I thought I'd share it with all of you as well!
I don’t give people as much grief over age and weight than others do. Age you can do nothing about. Weight, more so, but I know people with real gland issues who eat like birds but are massive. Who am I to tell them they don’t have the right to dress up in historical uniforms? I have no more...
I encountered a dachshund today while entering a convenience store. A older couple had a red mini female. She looked up at me, wagged her tail and rolled over for me to scratch her tummy. I asked the shocked parents of the pup for permission to oblige. The pup loved it. Afterwards, they just...
The funny thing was I was never a dog person until we went with my wife’s sister’s family to go look for a wiener dog. At the breeder, they handed everyone a puppy to check out and I found I couldn’t put mine down. I’ve been a dog person ever since that moment. We had two Dachshunds until 2006...
This whole thing has been bounced around the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) since they started doing this. I’ve been a member of SASS since 2007 (hardly shot at all this year because of panic buying of ammunition and reloading supplies after the presidential election, that is only now...
WOW! I have a black-and-tan dachshund named Charlie as well. I had no idea “The Duke” had one as well! Still, I bet mine is more of a character than John Wayne’s Charlie was. ;)
