Thanks! My long-suffering wife would probably answer your question with, “He spends TOO much time doing that,” but at least when doing it locally, chasing trains with a camera isn’t an expensive hobby. It’s when you start travelling places that it gets costly. Usually, I just combine the two...
Of the 19,000 or so US men who deserted in WW2, not all of them were ever found or turned themselves in after the war. Some are missing to this day. They were referred to as “The lost division” during the war. I could assume some lived quiet lives in other countries, other came to nefarious ends...
Sorry, I have to disagree. I’ve talked with dozens of B-29 crew vets over the years and have plenty of photos and original jackets from the time period. While I do agree that they weren’t bundled up like they were in Europe, even at low levels it can get awfully chilly even in tropic...
People seriously misunderstand the difference between standing on the ground at Guam in the summer time and flying at over 20,000 feet. It can get darned cold that high up, no matter how close to the equator you are. Most bomber crewmen carried plenty of warm clothes for those flights. Just...
This movie has always been dear to me, they filmed most of it not far from where I grew up, at Wakulla Springs, Florida.
The sad thing is a re-make has been planned. :rage:
As for "Them," well, I think that's a film that could very easily be re-made today, but also probably shouldn't...
Nice, but is it really needed to put the website info on the side of the Jeep for displays? Couldn't a small handout or something aside do the same thing, if you're trying to show "daily life" for a GI and someone's website link shows up in their photos?
Also, it sure looks to me like said Jeep...
Yeah, but it's easy to say all this now, but how many of them were really not wanting to serve Hitler, as opposed to how many just didn't want to get killed and really didn't care who was in charge or what they were doing otherwise?
Kid of like the people in any military who have no issues with...
I know for a fact you can’t wear that kind of insignia anymore. I bought a set of those LT bars when I was on active duty and was reamed royally for wearing them. I think bullion was last used in the 50s. I can’t recall seeing it used any later than that in photos. Back in the day, that was the...
Yeah, a perfect example of an authetic re-enactor... :eusa_doh:
I’ve been doing WW2 re-enacting for 20 years now and have been to events almost everywhere. I’ve never heard any of these words before reading them just now. They must be British re-enacting slurs?
Actually, they only built ONE of them and will not be building another. A couple of US groups are building their own 19th century engines, but nothing as ambitious as when these amazing Brtis did! This is one of the engines just completed in the US.
Actually, you’ll probably never see a UP 4000...
Yeah, I know, people pull that page out all the time, saying it’s a WW2 PATTERN. But like bayonet lugs on carbines, M3-A1 grease guns and other items, there were all kinds of things that were on paper near the end of the war that never made it there. The square mermites are a good example...
Look at what the “wounded soldier” is resting on. ARRRRGH! It's attack of the postwar Mermite Cans! :eusa_doh: Sorry, it drives me nuts to see postwar mermites used even though SO many people use them because they’re easier to find than the round ones which are correct for WW2. Someone will...
I’m not accusing you of anything, but any time I hear people looking for original cotton thread, I’m reminded of a guy I knew who horded cotton thread in any color he could find and used it on insignia sewn to jackets to boost the price among collectors at shows (as synthetics glow under a black...
