I first came to FL a year ago to announce to the world that I had bought this jacket on Ebay and to solicit opinions on fit Unfortunately I already thought it was too big and I've since lost twenty-five pounds. If there's one thing I've learned here, it's "fit is everything," so I'd like to...
I can't believe that in Boston or NYC there isn't a vintage store that sells leather jackets and does or sources out repairs and replacements on the knits. I had a similar question until I went to a vintage store in LA and he said that was right down his line. Of course, moolah will be...
6.2 pounds in competition cowhide (by my reckoning). I think how short it is depends a lot on how tall you are. At 5'9", I wouldn't call it a short jacket at all.
Of course, you can't ever gain weight or it'll hang in the closet year after year saying, "J'accuse!" That happened to me so I gave away a great jacket only to get thin again. Grrr!
Congrats on the fit. If the arms are a tad short (and I'm not saying they are), there are always gauntlets (which I think work better when the arms are a little shorter and don't sorta push them off).
I read somewhere that Enfields run large. I can believe it because I'm now a size 40 (39 inch chest) and my 42 Enfield feels almost two sizes too big. It sure seems more than one size too big. It's not for me to say, but I think Insurrection is an expert on Enfield sizing. I may have read...
I have the Firenze leather on a Teton (that Vanson had in stock when I called) and the "competition" weight in an Enfield I got on Ebay. Firenze is less substantial and I say to definitely go with the competition. But I'm not sorry I got the Firenze in this particular jacket, on Kim's...
I'm sorry to be a pest, but inquiring minds want to know. I may want to sell a 42 Enfield that I got on Ebay. (The pic below is a teaser. Originally, when I got it and posted this pic soliciting opinions on fit, someone pointed out I had a big stomach, thank you very much. Anyway, I've since...
I'm sort of a newbie here and don't want to come across as Mr Know-all when there are probably knowledgable FL'ers who will shortly chime in with a list of proven restorers. That said, I was recently in Schaeffer's Garment Hotel ( www.schaeffersgarmenthotel.com ) on Sunset in LA. They had a...
I'm also thinking LW Rigger with a leather collar. Here's a pic from their website of one with no zippered chest pocket or button tab and, to me, it's "leather bomber jacket" simplicity itself. Also I like the way the zipper shows and having hand warmer pockets. But, I'll admit to being a...
First of all, thanks to all who replied. As usual there was plenty of food for thought and some new resources. But truth told, I think I'm questioning the whole concept. After even thinking of going the A1 route totally, I decided to stick to the A2 for a new jacket I'm 9/16 of an inch away...
I'm not crazy about the knit collar on an A1 but I like the the lack of epaulets. Also, A2's are a lot more common and it looks like I'm impersonating a pilot. If someone could make an A1 with a leather collar like in this picture, I think it would be pretty cool. I like the way you can open...
It seems like every time you get on a bike you're making a million safety calculations a minute. I would never go without a helmet (of course CA has a helmet law) but I only wear a 1/2 or 3/4, not full-face. A lot of times I wear my Vanson Teton, which is armored and is more like wearing a...
Which would you prefer, and why? I do have a silver Vespa and a silver helmet, but those are minor concerns. Thanks in advance. I guess you could say that this is going to be my primo jacket :)
