I am trying to narrow down my choices for a first custom leather jacket. I am looking for a rich brown mid to heavy weight.
Natural light isn't great outside right now (we are currently being battered by a tropical storm), but I took some pictures of my initial sortings.
Top contenders...
I figured this is probably a better thread for these questions. I got a bunch of swatches from Simmons Bilt tonight.
The first three to grab me are all Horween: Lux Brown, Milan and Metro. Blattwerk is interesting, but the upcharge is just too steep.
If anyone has good pics of these or...
I spent some time on a few small bases with ‘mixed’ messes and clubs. Errgghhh! It felt like eating at the kids’ table while your parents had fun and watched you like hawks. Looking back, I’m sure they didn’t like it much either.
Officers were encouraged to maintain an aloofness from enlisted ranks.
Officers wouldn’t feel they were able to ‘let their hair’ down in front of the troops and vice versa.
Five months later, these just arrived. Kyle at Baker’s sources some brown domain leather for me and Wesco made them in a 10EEE with double midsole and a .5” heel lift. I’m surprised how comfortable they feel right out of the box - I was ready for a tough break-in period!

I tend to prefer older firearms. I have a soft spot for the Browning Hi Power, for example. But I couldn’t resist the AUG - a civilian version of my old service rifle (the F88C).
That’s a photo I saved from another forum. He ordered this during the bison 20% off sale at a time I currently had a jacket in order elsewhere. I definitely had some jacket envy when his arrived!
There is a plum in my size on Amazon (which has indeed been picked-over, since the last time I looked). I also liked the tweedy brown they had as well as the Norwegian shawl collar - both sold out here, now.
Too bad they don’t do kids sizes. I bet my kids would wear them in winter.
I ordered mine from the UK, failing to realise that TWK and OK were the same brand. With shipping and the higher price, I paid close to double what I could have - and yet I still consider it a bargain!
After taking another look at their Amazon store, I may have to buy a WP now - I like some of...
It’s probably already been said, but just in case: for US buyers, don’t order directly from OK in the UK. They also list on Amazon under their parent company TW Kempton. Fifty dollars delivered in two days.
