The Aeronaut is a beauty - Heron on a budget.
The capeskin is absolutely superb too - I've had a jacket in Victory capeskin and it's the best cape on the market in my view.
I picked up a grey wool flannel version of a similar jerkin by Old Town (http://www.old-town.co.uk/products/jerkins_m_f.htm) from EBay.
One of my best Old Town purchases - it's been in virtually constant use ever since, so warm and practical as a layer over lighter jackets or thick jumpers.
I've owned a couple of original mil spec AN-J-3 jackets (unlabelled as ever so unsure of the makers) and a civilian 'AN-J-3' by McGregor Sportswear/Doniger from the 1940s.
One mil spec jacket and the McGregor did not have epaulettes (as part of the original pattern), the other had more...

I currently have a Good Wear Spiewak A-2 in French goat (seal dyed over russet), which should patinate...
Nah, not for me.
I love the original - which would look great in context (like this Lewis Leathers version:
http://www.disneyrollergirl.net/wp-content/uploads/Lewis-Leathers-Marcus-Ross-3.jpg as a retro bikers outfit), but for every day wear?
I survived the 80s and don't want to go back there...
