They were mainly meant for donkey work like loading and carrying to protect uniforms, and of course by sappers who were very important in the Great War. The picture above is almost certainly a sapper, and the small arm was to protect him in close quarter underground fighting under the front...
I've got a couple of jackets with a pop stud inside pocket and another on order. I can't say I've ever given it a thought. You might see an outline with a skin tight fit I suppose but if you really were worried about that you wouldn't have a pocket in the first place. Because anything in the...
Sir Jacket.
Did you read the thread? A few posts have mentioned some of the bad modifications which customers have had done, and I suggest that a cord strip is hardly that.
I reckon counting some from the sale pages and second hand, and some of those got moved on quickly, that I've had a few...
I prefer a slightly longer jacket too now. I bought a HWM a few years ago in an 'authentic' fifties length, and although it is right and covers the belt, just sitting on the top of the jeans front pockets. I would rather it was an inch longer really and forget the fifties fit. I have a HB on...
As I wrote above and others have added here too there is a big difference between a customer cocked up jacket which we have all seen and this. It's just the bottom of the lining FFS. This is being precious. I've had an Aero where the lining sagged so I know what I'm talking about.
"Ken doesn't like the look." But Ken isn't going to be wearing it is he?
Reminds me of the old joke: No I can't go with you to the woods, mummy wouldn't like it. Mummy's not going to get it sweetheart. To the woods.
I ordered a jacket with a strip about a month ago. I asked if there was a charge, which I was quite prepared to pay, and was told there wouldn't be one. So if they really are just going to start changing orders by diktat without even telling their customers I for one am not happy about it.
Of...
It might be a good idea for her to post here about the change if it is happening. I'll be in touch with her soon about it I expect. In my opinion if the customer wants it the customer should get it. It's not the same as some of the odd looking jackets produced under the old regime which I can...
I hope they aren't going to not give the customer the option of a cord strip if that's what he wants. I have a jacket on order with a strip specified and I prefer the alpaca lining to be protected at the bottom from wear to authenticity. I'm not an actor in a picture, and it's not a military...
I didn't like them much or butcher's made ones if it comes to that. But I did like that ad.
Actually I don't think that Brains still exists. They used to have their main factory in Bristol at one time. Though Mr Brain's faggots are still sold I think but they aren't the same.
I don't actually like the look of most of the leather, or the designs. The 20's half belt excepted. The HH is mid weight and most of the steer looks matt and slightly odd in the pictures. At the full price they're only £25 cheaper than Aero's European steer, and a bit cheaper then mid weight HH...
Seemed to be the same jacket on different people a lot of the time. There was what looked like an Aero 50s HB De luxe on several. I can't see an AL version on their site so I assume it must be an Aero one?
