Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Thanks for sharing. LOT3210 would place this hat a little later than the one posted by Tukwila, which would agree with the small round size sticker (generally later than the large scalloped version) and the look and feel of the sweatband - late teens to early 1920s would be my guess.

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

LOTXXXX imprints appear to be sequential and if so can be useful evidence in placing a hat into the timeline of Stetson production. The small sampling collected can be seen here. LOT 1538 would be a low (early) number in a sequence that runs to about LOT8000 and disappears sometime around 1942...

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

If you can photograph it safely, would like to see the LOTXXXX number imprinted on the reverse side of the sweat in the front of the hat.

    STETSON 7x CLEAR BEAVER QUALITY

This is true for the 7XCB but also true for any grade of Stetson when viewed over a period of years. The 7XCB represents a grade and price point within the line. Everything else is open to interpretation and speculation. I've found a similar difference of hand between Open Road style 7XCB hats...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

First wearing of the lightweight felts is one of the joys of seasonal change and a bit of normalcy in an otherwise topsy turvy time.

ANYBODY FAMILIAR WITH ROGERS PEET HATS?

You might find some clues in the manufacturing labels. I used to shop Rogers Peet with my Dad during their later years on 42nd St. near Fifth Ave. Pretty sure this derby will be c.1940 to later 1930s. This type of liner was popular in those years. It has a piece of stiff paper behind the crown...

    Stetson 5X Clear Beaver, 1942

Great to see again. Who did the restoration work? The numbers above the LOTXXXX on the left reference the sweatband width (2”). Not sure on the right - often the number 81 appears. Sometimes on older hats the words “stiff” or “soft” were stamped, either the character of the leather or the type...

    Turquoise/Native American jewelry

A nice cuff... thanks for posting. Its deep stamping and traditional design remind me of some pieces by Perry Shorty.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Thank you, Brent. I’ve tried to diversify the weaves in collecting boaters and this style is the hardest not to duplicate. I do have several but agree - this Stetson seems to put the parts together exceptionally well, as Stetsons often do.

All great and each worn as if it grew on your head... including the bowler. I wear mine infrequently too but always enjoy them when I do.
