Here is my earliest "Beaver Brand" hat. I feel it is from around 1970 or so (it does not seem to be from 1980, and trade mark not withstanding I still think they started the beaver line around 1970 as they initially used much of the same designs in the logos (just replacing "Lion Hats" with...
One of these days I need to post all of this Langenberg/Lion Hats stock book:
It is from 1935-1936 and has lots and lots of hats like these:
and felt samples like these.....
Here would be a good place to put this I think....
I need a LOT more time..........:eek::rolleyes:;)
ALMOST back to the 1930's in style...:rolleyes:o_O:rolleyes:...we have a mid to late 1960's Lions Hat stingy brim underwelt.....about the end of the run before they turned into "Beaver Brand"...Basic black with a "European" bow treatment.....This one was NOS when I got it....I like wearing it to...
Early to mid-1930's.......has a really wide (just over 2") non-reeded textured sweat with taped joint. Very tall crown with narrow brim reminiscent of the 20's......Very nice sort of short hair finish on this one.......bow is offset to the rear though not as much as the 40's version...
Here is a early to mid 40's "Whippet" style......or "French Bound" as they said in the trade.....I DO have the awesome RED liner with gold stamped tip.....I had to take it out to condition the sweat as it (and the whole hat) was a restoration project....while the finish is rough looking, I WAS...
Mid-50's Lion Hats "Stetson Wanderer" Clone...their "Major" quality....One of my absolute favorites!!!! Has plenty of crown to shape as you can see with my wonky crease....this is one nice felt hat.......Note the striped welt detail between the lining and the tip.......:):):):)
Dates of Interest:
Founded in 1860 as: Gauss-Hunicke & Company in St Louis Missouri.
1881 Changed to: Gauss Hunicke Hat Company.
1886 Changed again this time to: Gauss-Shelton Hat Company.
Langenberg appears in 1901 with another name change: Gauss-Langenberg Hat Company.
In 1918 it was...
You are missing my point........Langenburg Hat Company was around for quite a while.....while "Beaver Brand" is quite a new creation by ANY comparison......and it confuses the issue and is misleading with people thinking "Beaver Brand" as a trade name has existed since 1860.........
Compare...
EXACTLY what I was thinking on BOTH counts.......But so far....1980 is all I can find......and as you point out that was 40 years ago:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:.....CRAP.....40 years ago.........:(
"Beaver Brand" was not around in 1860......it is a relatively a new trade name.....created by Langenburg Hat company. Saying it was around in 1860 is trade hype the same as HATCO saying THEY have been around since 1865 because they "own" Stetson or since 1817 because they "own" Malory........
