That's a great question Alexander. I believe that derbies were taller in the 1880's and got shorter in the 1900's, but I am not an expert. As a fan of taller crowned hats, especially derbies, I know that you can still purchase 6 inch and taller crowned derby hats today...

Jack. That's a great looking Gus. I came close to getting that same style from Rich, but I ended up getting a western fedora. I'm waiting on it now, and I'm strongly leaning towards a larger western for my next purchase from him.

Steve +1 to Harv's comment, the color on that Bowler is excellent. Its so hard to find a good vintage bowler/derby in anything other than black, (at least in my size).
I'm waiting on a 20x fedora in smoke from Rands Custom hats in Billings Montana. I was fitted in September and it should be here sometime in December. I've already started bugging the mail carrier, she knows when I'm expecting a hat and cringes when she sees me.
